what do you mean "by myself", do you have a family? if yes they have to land too.

you should be fine to land and as long as you receive your pr card, you're ok to leave and return permanently to canada later. and yes
you need to stay in canada at least 2 years out of 5 - to maintain your permanent residency status.
Thanks for your helpful input emamabd and Yes I do have the family.

Any Idea on estimate time to receive PR card once I land to CA?

My plan is to take a leave from a work in US and land in CA with family and stay there until we get our PR card and return back to US to work for next two-three years before moving back to CA permanently.

Thanks for the help!! +1 to you.

thanks!

The pr card processing time is now at "22" days for new permanent residents (ofcourse you need to provide a canadian address when you land)

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/perm-card.asp

however, you need to check cic website regularly as processing times are not static and may vary a lot.

Certainly. Look at ads in craiglist, kijii, rentbc.com and the housing forum in the website.

You don't need to stay till you receive your PR card although it is always advisable to leave Canada after you receive it. Normally PR card arrives by post at the address (Canadian) you provide at the time of landing.

When landing for the first time, do I still have to show the designated amt of funds for the number of family members, even if we only plan on staying for a week.

Yes. Otherwise if the officer asked and you cannot provide it, you and family would be denied landing.

Hi All,

I have a question regarding the List of Items Accompanying.

This has to be
1. an exhaustive list of all items (listing each and every item)
or
2. just a list stating a broad category of items, for example: n boxes of kitchen utensils, n boxes of apparels, n boxes of electronic items etc
?

Planning for the landing is giving me the jitters.

Please guide.

Dear Seniors/Experts,

I have an important question.

According to Bangladesh Forex Regulations, any traveler can carry not more than USD 7,000.00 (or EQV) per year.

On the other hand, for single applicant CAD 11,931 (or USD 9,339 USD) require to show as POF during application.

My question is, what CBSA officer will do during landing if they found that I have USD 7,000.00 (which is USD 2,339.00 less).

Expecting your prompt feedback.

Regards, Kayes

Hi Kayes,

You will not be asked to specifically carry CAD 11931 while landing. You can carry whatever amount you want. It can be much less, it can be much much higher. The authorities only require you to declare on paper in case you are carrying more than CAD 10000. However, it is advisable that you carry documentation to show the source of the funds, in case it is a very huge amount.

This is a frequently asked question on all forums. We have to all understand that we are required to show a particular amount as POF only during the application filing stage. It is very much advisable to maintain the funds as is. However, during landing, we can carry any amount of funds.

For PNP applicants, do they have to show PNP certificate in original or its copy at landing. Is it an important document or they don't ask for it.or does the officer just wants to see the visa and copr? Because the PNP certificates most of us have might have expired, the PR process being quiet lengthy in some cases. Is there any PNP applicant who was asked to show PNP certificate?
