What so strange about it? Many Canadians go to USA for shopping groceries and gas.

@ arun786

Yes, you can bring rice especially those vacuum packed from India.

Dear senior, no offense but I just thought why should one waste their limited baggage allowance for the items which are available in Canada at dearer price !!!

However the concept of carrying Grocery is to concentrate initially on Job rather looking for grocery.

need one more advise whether need to carry internaltional attested documents i.e. all Credential

Good morning I have a question, when you arrive to the airport and you have to give an address for the PR card can that address be in some other city? For eg. If I land in Calgary and want to stay in Calgary but the only person I know lives in Edmonton, can I give their address???? Or it has to be in the same city

It is advisable to carry all documents that served as a basis for your permanent residence approval, just in case. However, the immigration officer is unlikely to bother with credentials. He'll just need customs forms and your COPR+PR visa+proof of funds

Hello Kunal!

I am pretty much in the same situation as you are. I will be landing in about fortnight from now, but will not be moving permanently until later. AFAIK, the information you got from BIS is correct - we don't need that list for now. But I have not checked with someone who has actually done that, it would be nice to hear from someone about that. However, from a friend of mine who is already settled in Canada, I got to know that the process is not much different.

cheers!
Hi GuruJi / Kunal,

I am pretty much in the same boat. I would be landing in Canada in about 3 weeks from now but not sure about settling there yet. From what I have read across Forums so far, I would still need to show POF, process my PR card application and also complete B4 / B4a. So I do I go ahead and fill up all the forms like all other intending settlers or should I do anything different? Any help is much appreciated. Thanks

Yes you can bring your stuff/package food just consider the following

- Each passenger has a baggage limit, just watch out not to go over/beyond it or you pay excess baggage fee. This fee if avoided could buy enough groceries in Canada to last for a week or two.

- screen the grocery package you going to bring and packed only the allowable items. You can check airline website or Canada’s restricted goods during a travel (Google it).

- expect higher chances of getting your baggage at the point of entry. If inspected, expect more delays as you sort your stuff in front of an officer. If you got restricted goods, it will be confiscated.

Hi Mates

I was filling up PRC App IMM5444E, I got doubts on which information need to be filled on Immigration History, personal History (Address and Work) and Travel History.

Please explain on priority and if anyone can help me to provide pre-filled, I shall be very thankful.

Re: Experience with Landing with a B4 or a goods to follow?

(Sent this message to Ajay - posting here for the benefit of other formites -)

Let me clarify your queries to the best of my knowledge -

1, PoF - (This information is based on what I have collected from other sites and also confirming the same with the CIC representative over phone, but this is NOT documented anywhere either on CIC website or otherwise) - PoF is only meaningful at the time of your application for PR and once you have done that, the officer at the Port-of-entry (POE) will not really be checking you for this proof. The reason why some of the officers at POE ask the question - "How much money do you carry?" is solely for the sake customs purpose, since you HAVE to declare it at the time of entering the country if you are carrying more than 10K CAD. And therefore, this has nothing to do with PoF! (For the above mentioned reason, I was not asked about PoF at the time of landing.)

2, PR card - Your visa/CoPR is valid for entering into the country only once! And for any further entry into the country, you either need another visa (since the present visa is for single entry only) or a proof to indicate that you are PR. The PR card serves the latter purpose. It takes about 4-6 weeks to get PR card mailed to your Canadian address (can't be mailed outside canada). If you do not intend to stay in Canada until you receive your PR card, the best thing to do is to have it mailed to a friend or relative in Canada and get it couriered (or maybe personally carried) to your address outside Canada from them later. That way you can re-enter Canada at a later point of time (until your PR card is valid - usually 5 years).

3, B4 form - Filling up this form depends on whether you bring any items behind you (cargo, post, etc.,). In my case, I did not have anything brought anything so was not applicable and therefore not asked at the time of landing.

Hope this helps!

cheers!
