No - Alberta won't give you medical coverage for free. You will have to pay for the delivery of your baby yourself. I would budget between $7K and $10K.

Hello Kunal!

I am pretty much in the same situation as you are. I will be landing in about fortnight from now, but will not be moving permanently until later. AFAIK, the information you got from BIS is correct - we don't need that list for now. But I have not checked with someone who has actually done that, it would be nice to hear from someone about that. However, from a friend of mine who is already settled in Canada, I got to know that the process is not much different.

cheers!

Hello evryone....m planning to move in Sept and have started looking for rented apartments.
Any suggestions on genuine websites to look for apartments (in Waterloo)?
Your help would be highly appreciated.

But, I am not entirely sure about the proof of fund requirement. Since I am planning to stay in Canada only for about a week now, is it sufficient if I carry just enough money (about CAD 1200-1500) with me right now and mention the same to the officers at the POE?

cheers!

You have to fulfill the PoF requirement when landing. The officer also needs to be assured that you will be staying in canada until your PR card arrives, if you inform that you intend to stay for a week..he can choose not to process your pr card at this time until you decide to move permanently to canada (in this case you will need to apply for a TRV once you are back to your country - in order to be able to return to canada).

Not having PoF while landing is a risk, its up to you to decide.

Regards,

I would like to ask 1 question related to job & driver's License. how important is it, to have driver's license for securing a job ? and what are the set backs without having it ? If one plans to settle in Calgary,AB.

I'm not speaking for calgary..as i haven't been there, my comment is general:

it depends on the nature of the job, if it requires "moving" around to meet clients/or involves a lot of field work then it would be stated as a requirement hence it would be mandatory to have it. If its a regular office job most probably the license wouldn't be of much relevance..
however my advice is to do it anyway, having a car in "winters" is a great relief...winters are aggressive, long waits outside for public transport only makes it worse...

Hi there .

Not trying to be rude. Just I am amazed by people who wants to stay along with certain Community . I am sure you might have your reasons but if you want to live with Pakistani community then you should live in pakistan . As I said you might have your comfort zones but a piece of advise is that the more you restrict yourself to a limited connections and unwilling to embrace the power of diversity , which Canada excels at . it would be diffcult to break through in the job market .

Well you might not even need a job and might have millions tucked away and open your own stuff . anyway to anwer your question schools, grocery et.c are spread all around missisauga, you wont have a problem . Lot of people stay closer to Square One as its got a good transit connect to Toronto.

Good Luck

Go to the nearest welcome center near your home, they will help update your resume for Canadian market and also guide you on how to apply for jobs. These services are totally free.

For a list of centers in Ontario (go to the one closest to you) : http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/newcomers/map/ontario-list.asp
