Hi qorax,

I really appreciate your help and I would like to ask about 2 things,
1. A bank to open my account in calgary
2. A good place to stay in for the 2 weeks I'm planning to spend in calgary knowing that we r a family of 5
3. And is it possible to apply for my kids schools for the next school year or should I wait until we settle in September?

Thanks a lot

Hi,

1. TD, CIBC, Scotia & BMO r all equally good. TD a shade better b'coz their branches r [nearly] everywhere & r open for the longest hrs.
2. I'm not aware of Calgary's Temp. Accom scene... pls try the specific threads pertaining to Calgary... I believe member Aquib has one such.
3. Schooling is a 'right' here... ur kids WILL BE admitted to a neighborhood whenever they come/settle here, any time of the yr, mid-sessions as well.

Guys,

I have created the following website to help New and Existing Canada Immigrants to find all the information they need in a single location. Check this out...might be useful.

Hi, here to bother u again

one more question. regarding the gold jewellary we will carry, is it usually kept in the house or u have to take locker in the bank, and how much does a locker cost? secondly when we declare the worth of that gold at our landing, is it also counted in annual tax returns, means if we take our gold do we have to pay tax each year on that?

thanks

1. Many keep it at home, while an equal no. rent a locker... it's ur personal choice. And much'd depend on the 'qty' of jewellery that u've. Incidentally Scotiabank's Startright pgme allows a newcomer FREE locker for the 1st yr.

2. The annual tax return concerns our "income" and "expenses"... nowhere in it there's a/ny consideration of/for our assets.

Hello Qurax,

I'd like to carry house hold items to canada from India. Could I book it on the airways? How much is allowed and what is the cost? Say about 15-20 mid sized boxes. How long will it take for the goods to reach calgary by ship and the approx. cost?

Thanks,

bojojo

Calgary is landlock. You better check with the relocation company or airlines in India for other details.

Hi captain

After getting PR card is there any difference between Principle applicant and dependents..

In my situation, I might need to enter Canada with family, stay for 7-10 days and return ALONE to my working place.
I'm sure by that time, my PR card would not have arrived.

So the plan is my family will stay back and send me my PR Card once it comes so that I can enter Canada after I wind-up everything peacefully.
Is this applicable or the right way? ::)

My other concern is what if the PR Card is lost for some reason and in that situation, my whole family would be in Canada with their respective PR and I'd be without it. :o

What's the way out if this sort of things happen? :'(

pls advice!

Hi Qorax or any seniors.. need suggestions for the following:

1. if i have an arranged employment, can i land directly in the province where i have a job offer rather than apply for immigration then land through that visa. As the waiting time will be more. If i have a job offer(which i am planning to) then land there and then from that province start applying for immigration. Will that work.

2. I am in a process of writing IELTS. is that required even when i have arranged employment?

please suggest

1. Just an employment arrangement doesn't grant u the right to enter Canada. U'd need a visa for it, unless u r from a Visa Exempt nation. And that visa would take it's own process, time, clearances & thus, approval/denial. If ur employer processes ur TWP (work permit) u may enter Canada on receipt of it's approval. Or if u succeed in a TRV (visit visa) u could arrive here - join ur employer - and let them convert that into a TWP. Applying for PR is another matter - which has it's own requirement, eligibility etc.

2. YES.
