You can bring-in "cash", as much as you want. There's no issue about that at all. And declaring it is a non-issue as well. Every country would require you to "declare" amounts over a specific threshold (cash, or cheque, or draft) ~ and that's for FINTRAC measures, not for confiscating it or for putting the visitor/entrant into any inconvenience.

Non-declaration is an offence. But declaration doesn't "harm" you in any way.
Thank you for your reply! A lot of people are advising us to get a demand draft instead of cash to make bank account opening easy. I don't understand it though and prefer to take cash as D/D would incur extra charges. What do you suggest?

For large amount cash deposit (greater than $3000 I think), bank usually ask for proofs that you acquired in a legal way. For me, $3000 cash is bulky but if you don't mind then go ahead.

As steaky opined, there's a POF query while depositing cash in your bank. It is a "soft" query and only occurs while:

a) For amounts exceeding $10,000
b) For existing Canadian bank a/c holders

It doesn't happen for New Immigrants' Accounts.

My 2 cents...

Did soft landing 2 days ago, I live in US.

I carried with me the below:
1. Passport with stamped Visa. -off course
2. COPR (IMM 5292B)
5. PR Card Application (IMM 5444E). -carried it filled pre-printed - WAS totally NOT NEEDED.
6. Goods to Follow List (Form B4 / B4A). - Officer totally missed this. i had to remind him and asked him to stamp jewelry pictures.
7. Goods Accompanying List. - i said NONE.

After landing:

8. Went and applied SIN at Service Canada centre. - NO NEED to fill any paper forms.

Then opened bank account - monthly fee was waived for 9 months (ask for newcomer discount and show landing papers) on RBC - No limit account.

Hope this helps. thanks a lot to this forum and the extremely helpful people and information I have found here. you guys rock!!

Hi,

I too am planning to put my wife's gold jewellery (3 wedding sets) in goods to follow list. The thing is we have a few events in our home country India in coming years and do not want to get the gold to Canada while landing and take it again back to India 3-4 times. Hence not getting the gold during our landing next week. Intend to get the jewellery after I guess 5 years or so. So, will that be valid? Also, will they ask for a revalued receipt from a jeweller after 5 years? Currently, we just have the receipts of the jewellery which is 3 years old.

Awaiting a reply.

The "Goods to Follow" is an open ended document. So, no issues there if you fetch your gold after 5-yrs. And also no, you'll not be inquired with new revaluation.

Hello All,

Apologies if this is not the correct group to post this question. I was not able to find any relevant information hence putting it here.
I know this might be a common question but will ask it again.
I got my PR through EE - PNP in June 2017. Got by PR cards in Sept. After that traveled back to my home country.
Now I have a job offer from Montreal, my questions are:
1. If I have my PR cards, can I work in Montreal? If No, is there any work around? :)
2. If yes, will there be any problem in getting insurance there?
3. Will there be any problems in future when I apply for my citizenship?

Anything I should keep in mind?

TIA

Yes, you can. Once you're a PR ~ you've no restrictions to move around Canada and work anywhere.
2. If yes, will there be any problem in getting insurance there?
You'll have two months* to apply for the localized Health Insurance.
3. Will there be any problems in future when I apply for my citizenship?
No. No issues at all.

*If I remember the duration right

Isn't good to follow list only valid for a year? I mean whatever you list on it...should arrive in canada within a year or else the 'no custom' doesn't apply??
Thats what we have been told by our representatives and cic website seems to suggest this too.
Can you please shed some light on this??

There is no such one year limit. I've myself brought-in the listed things till three-four years.
