Thanks so much for sharing. We have our COPR and CSQ as we applied through Quebec. We received the visa earlier this year but because of work cannot land officially until next year. However we need to enter Canada and land before our visas runs out hence we are making a short trip this year.
I see you did something similar where you landed and then left. I have a few questions if you can help:
1) Did they ask for proof of funds at all? You mentioned that the officer asked how much you had on you but did you have to show it? (If anyone else that has landed recently can answer, please do)
Ans. They do not normally ask about proof of funds. I have carried both funds and my authentic bank statements with me. However, the IO asks if you are carrying more than 10,000 CAD. That's all. And one more thing: you bank statements are good for PoF. Just say that you will open bank account and then wire transfer.
2) Any issues regarding the medical card? Should we just wait until we land officially next year before applying?
Ans. Am not sure about Quebec. What I know is normally you apply for medical cards after you land and settle down.
3) Should we walk with all of our original documents (certificates etc.)?
Ans. Better in case any confusion arises.
4) If they ask any questions, is it correct to say that you should not give them the impression that you are only doing a short initial visit?
Ans. The short landing is not illegal. And The IO does not actually bother about it. Landing means only crossing the immigration control and finishing your initial paper works. Right after you finished all those, you can board even next flight. Just you need to provide a valid Canadian address where your PR cards will be delivered, that's all. So even if they ask you - you should be truthful saying that you will be doing a short landing and come back later permanently.
We are basically planning to put everything we will bring on the items to follow form. Anyone did anything similar?
Not a problem. The officer will put seal on your follow on goods form. You need preserve that form with you for next visit.
Any advice from someone who had to land and then leave before coming back to settle permanently would be much appreciated.
Many thanks.
