My destination in Canada is calgary.. I have a flight option in which there is layover in Vancouver for 5 hrs.

Is this sufficient time to - complete the Immigration process and board the flight to Calgary - - - 5 hrs

Or is it better to take the direct flight to Calgary

Please suggest
5 hours should be plenty of time.

I have still not understood why anyone would be interested in carrying spices, pickles and other food items to Canada! With the large ethnic mix there, I am sure everything is available without the complication of declaring on forms and in any case, you can hardly carry a lifetime's supply. So why bother ? What ever you carry will run out in a few weeks if not a couple of months.

I've travelled extensively in Europe and there is not a single country where we did not find Indian / Pakistani grocery stores, restaurants, halal shops, shawarma, doner kebabs among other things.

It's because people might not be able to purchase these items from some places in Canada and/or they won't need to travel to major cities to replenish their stocks.

There are some items which we cannot buy from any shops...Parents affection is one of them.Everybody understands that we can buy pickles/spices from shops in most of the country and I personally don't like to carry pickles or sweets while traveling but if my mom asks me to take some sweets made by her for her grand child in Canada how can I disappoint her...I don't think people carry them to save money or replenish stock.Especially people from India/Pakistan give high importance to the family bonding...

Any one traveling from USA to canada by Air had their household goods carried with them? Is there any other means to transport if u r not driving or taking ur vehicle with u?
I am planning to leave almost most of the items here in USA, but still will have few basic household goods that we might need immediately like few Dining plates, Grinder, Vaccum very light one almost 5lbs, cooking utensils. This will be 2 boxes of almost 100lbs. Rest some clothing which we might have almost more than 100lbs, and shoes and some books.
Any one in the forum please do share...

Everyone has that option, I am interested in convenience of the choice of shipping options for cargo weighing 300 lbs maximum. Anyone who have gone through..can share their opinion.

Actually I found many East Indian people drive to nearby Washington state to buy large quantities of milk, gas and other grocery products back to Canada to save money or replenish stock. Also, if their family at home have multiple Canadian temporary visiting visas, they can bring those foods to replenish their host's stocks in a regular basis. :)
