LANDING IN CANADA ??? -All You Need To Know.

Hi Rocky,

We don't need to fill-in the PR Card application forms. For the 1st landing & 1st PRC, it is done 'online' by the BSO @ the POE. It's a simple process for them, as all our details'd be on their system & they just fill-in:
1. Canadian Address
2. POF
3. Date of landing

The entire process at the a/port is quite simple & fast*. U have 4 desks to visit:
a) Entry BSO. -Checks your Disembarkation Form/Card & Highlights the POF & B4.
b) Immigration Desk. -Only for newcomers. Here all jobs r done [Record of Landing].
c) Welcome Desk. -Only for newcomers. Here we get the handouts/flyers/Goody Bags.
d) Exit BSO. -Funds r checked & B4 stamped [this location is after the baggage carousel].

*The entire process shouldn't take more than 30-40 minutes. Delay, if any, could only occur against 2 reasons. 1]Rush of newcomers -then we have a line & 2]If u have larger amounts of funds -then the complete details need to be filed elaborately into the CRS system.

[1] Form B4 is enough for me. Is it necessary to mention exact amount / belongings in this form. You know when we move with family, there are last minute changes and at that time we can not just go and sit on computer and take print.

[2] which form to be filled for showing the funds E667 or E677 [I am moving with my wife and one child]

Yea, Draft is the gr8 idea to carry funds in a safer way, but I am getting Cash (fully legal) in significantly lesser cost than Draft/Tc, thats y I wanna use this option instead of TC/draft.

I'll advise against carrying all in 'Cash'. The same 'all eggs in one basket' rule applies. Things can go wrong somewhere.

However, I'm not aware of the Indian Airports though, but from most a/ports u can carry any amount of Cash, for 'landing purposes'. Even for visitation to countries [I'm a frequent traveller -seen most of the globe], u can carry enough Cash, provided it's source was legal [we take the Forex Exchange house receipts only].

For my 'landing', I carried a substantial amount of Cash [besides Drafts]. Cash -well above the POF requirement, via Dubai-London-Toronto. And there was no problem, in either of the a/ports. The cash was in 4 packets [all above $10K], one in the briefcase, one in the kids backpack, one in my spouse's purse & one in my Laptop bag.

They were 'security checked' everywhere, as per prevalent practice, & no questions were asked anywhere, neither in Dubai, nor in Heathrow, or in Toronto. Though I declared it [total] in Toronto, while the BSO didn't bother to check it.

But, in the final exit BSO carousel, they had taken a lot of time to log the funds 'online' into the CRS website & provided me a signed & stamped printout.

Next day, visited the TD Bank Office@Westwood Mall, deposited all the Cash [except $22K] & the Draft/s into 2 a/cs. Got an 'unsecured' Credit Card for $5K & some 'initial' Cheques for imdt use. I picked-up the Credit Card & Cheque Book/s after 12 working days from the same bank later.

1. B4 is enough & needn't be perfect. I used only B4, not the B4A. Two copies each for Goods Accompanying & for Goods to Follow. Don't forget to take printouts of pics of Jewellry, else that wouldn't be accepted.

2. For the Funds, No Form/s Need To Be Filled. Just declare that in the 'CBSA Disembarkation Form', which u'll receive in the flight, from the Air Hostess or the Flight Purser.

Also remember, if u r a smoker, carry those 200 cigs [that u r allowed]. Here the cigs cost 10 times of Dubai. I'm paying thru my nose [pun intended].

Ha ha ha, I know.... I am used to paying through my nose for cigs in Britain, I'll maybe pick up some in the Duty free shops at the airport. But it still cant compare to the duty free prices at Dubai. Just out of curiosity, how much does a pack of Marlboro cost in Canada?

Ahaa.... I smoke Dunhil. It costs $10.35 a pack [sic]. Ditto for Marlboro. In Dubai it costed me AED7.00 a pack [$2]. Everytime I buy a pack here, my wife goes bonkers !!!

1. Most newcomer's bank a/c packages come with a Free Locker for 1yr. Scotiabank, TD Bank, BMO, CIBC etc all provide that facility.

2. U'll need 2 sets of the jewelry pics. One they'd keep, while 1 they'd return to u... Stamped. Ditto for the form B4.
