Landing - Funds required

Hi All,

I have a question about how much funds to take while landing. I am kinda confused on that.

CIC website says that for a single person, one has to show 11000 (approx) canadian dollars. But its also mentioned that we cannot carry more than 10,000 canadian dollars during landing.

So, how are we supposed to show proof of funds to the immigration officer at the port of entry (if asked). Does that mean we should carry 11000 dollars even though its not allowed (and probably may some duty on it). I am kinda confused here.

To all those who have landed recently, please advice. I am planning to land in another 10 days or so.

Thanks

you can carry more than 10K but "you have to declare" them.... my wife during her landing showed a draft check with more than 10K and told the officer about the money. They just wrote it down in the form and that's it....

Thanks a lot for your reply. Can you please confirm on the following also :

Also, do you know if we have to show the FULL proof of funds (Single - $11,086, 2 - $13,801) even if you are a provincial nominee (I an under AINP). ?

Will cashier's cheque in US DOLLARS suffice.

Thanks again

In addition, did you need to report anything to US custom and border protection.

I want to do my landing formalities and come back to US (will not be moving permanently now but within a year). Does that mean if I take cashier's cheque of more than 10000 , I have to declare to both
Canada Custom Border and Protection (entering and exiting)
US Customer Border and Protection (entering and exisitn).

Although, I am on H1 (work visa), I found the following link

cbp.gov/xp/cgov/travel/vacation/kbyg/money.xml

Any suggestions will be highly appreciated.

You don't have to carry all that money with you especially when you're coming back to the US. You should be able to show them your bank statements as proof of funds.

may I ask about the the show money? my family of 3 are under SINP -Provincial nominee program, our required show money is CAD14000. our flight is on Sept 15 2010.

are we obliged to bring all this amount in cash or in draft banks> how about the money is insufficient we can only bring US$ 5,000.. should they allow us to enter canada? because we believe since we are sponsored by my cousin in Saskatchewan they are the one will support us there to suffice the lack of funds we bring.

anyone pls answer me..because the buyer of our house here in the phils did not showed up...so we can only bring the 5,000 US dollars..can we present the land title as part of the show money?
