Dear Members,

I have landed in july,2009 and got my PR card in Oct,09. On the day i landed and applied for PR, officer asked me that how much money have with me.. I told him that as i hv an arranged employment so im not carrying any money. He asked me some company details and completed all my formalities and wish me best of luck. On the third day of landing, I went back to my home country for doing all my pending work like sale of property and packing etc. as i hv not done all this before. Im here in India frm last approx 150 days (and as of now i dont have any job)...Now as i got my PR card and completed all my pending things and now ready to move with my family (4 persons including me). Is still my family have to show or declare the money. I am already a PR card holder and my family members are landing first time, so i have to proceed through the same window, from where my family members will go or i am allowed to go directly out of the airport without any custom formalities.

One more question...This CAD 10,000 limit is the total we all carry or its for individual and is there any risk if carrying more than that...what type of form we have to fill if we are carrying more than the limit.

Also pls guide me if I/we have to complete any other formalities.

Thanks in advance for sharing experiences.

You should already have satisfied the funds requirements when you landed as the primary applicant. You can open a bank account in Canada online if you don't have one already and transfer money there if you don't want to carry too much. If you would rather carry money by check or cash, if you have more than $10,000 you need to inform customs about this.

There is no $10,000 "limit" per se; you can carry a million dollars in cash as long as it was legally obtained. You only have to report it, like Leon said, but you are allowed to bring it in and will be allowed to keep it all as long as you report it.

Dear Leon and Karlshammar,

Many thanks for your suggestions, But im still little confused. Can you pls clarify me that:

1. When I landed, I hv job, but now I dont have any job, do they still ask me about my previous job as I am here in India from last approx
150 days.
2. Am I be treated as normal PR or I have to do some formalities as I am landing first time after getting PR CARD.
3. I already had satisfied about funds requirements, is this mandatory for my family to bring/carry funds .
4. We have to inform officials if we are carrying more than $10000. But if we each (4 persons) carry $7000-8000 individually, thn still we
have to inform the officers.

Thanks in advance for sharing your experiences

1. From what I understand, you are already a PR, so you have right of entry. No need to worry about jobs, etc.
2. No, there are no special formalities. You are the same as every other PR. Btw, it's only called landing the first time when you become a PR. Now you are just entering the country again.
3. No, you are already a PR, so there is no funds requirement.
4. I don't know the laws specifically, so I can't answer that. If you are unsure, ask the officers when you enter. You will never get in trouble for reporting money even if you are not required to, but you will get in trouble for not reporting money you are required to report...

Thanks Karlshammar ..

One more help I needed..

I know that if Im carrying more than $10000 than I have to inform officials but suppose If we are carrying $20,000, than can we all 4 members can take $5000 each and in that way there is no need to inform the authorities. Is this funds requirement is for individual or to one family.

Surely, there is no harm in telling to the authorities, but still If you can clear me on this.

Information / experiences of other members are welcome.

Thanks...

I would suggest that you still inform the authorities. Even if you inform them, it's not that complicated and it won't cause problems.
When I landed, I brought 10,100 plus so I declared them. They just simply asked me again and then they wrote it down.
They didn't even ask me in what form they are nor asked to see the money.

Hi Seniors,

I have one question. We are four members in my family. If I get Visa do we all four family members have to enter Canada within the prescribed period of one year or only Principal Applicant has to enter Canada. In other words is it necessary for all four family members to go to Canada to get PR or only the PA? Please clarify.

Thanks.

They can land separately (as long as the principal applicant lands first), but it must be within the validity of the visa.

Hi Karlshammer,

Thanks for your prompt reply. In how much time the PR Card is issued, any idea?

Thanks.

When I spoke to the CIC yesterday they said that the current processing time is 4-6 weeks after landing.
