Landing Follow Up (plus question)

Hi Everyone,

Just an update. I landed in New Brunswick last Friday and all went (mostly) smoothly. I put my car under goods to follow (I recently paid my car off but hadn't received the title), and the agent doing my interview had no issue with that, but the person reviewing my goods did but ultimately deferred to the interviewing agent. His concern was that the car needed to be registered in New Brunswick. Anyways, they were both nice and sent me on my way. I returned home Wednesday as I am still working a getting a job in New Brunswick and have some loose ends to tie up.

The follow up is, I need to drive back up today to see family. Can I take the car that was on the goods to follow sheet? Should I borrow a family members so they don't think I'm trying to sneak a car into the country? Any thoughts?

it's perfectly fine to continue driving the car back and forth as long as it's properly insured/registered somewhere. it can't be registered in canada until you actually import it, so obviously the agent wasn't too aware of the vehicle import process. i drove my us plated car back and forth before importing, and had no issue. it probably won't even come up in primary review.

Thank you - you are always so helpful and knowledgeable. At customs, would it be best to just say I'm visiting since I did land but am still in the States tying up loose ends, or to say I'm "going home" as I'm traveling to what will be my final Canadian permanent address.

if you landed as a pr, there's no reason to say you are visiting as technically you are no longer eligible to be a visitor, and at this point it's no concern to them how long you plan to be in canada upon entering. once they see your COPR they aren't going to ask you how long you plan to stay or what your intentions are for entering, at least in my experience. if it comes up, then obviously tell the truth. i don't think it will come up though. more than likely they will just smile and say "welcome home".

you now are a PR, you are legally allowed to enter canada. it's going to take some time before you get more comfortable with that fact and your mindset changes from attempting to enter as a visitor. After 2.5 years, i still get butterflies when i get close to the border. as a landed PR, they legally can't deny you entry now.
