Landing Experience “Toronto” explained…..
Dear All,
Though there are many posts here, explaining Landing Experience…here’s my take…
I boarded KLM flight with my family (2 kids and spouse) on 27th Nov 2012 to Amsterdam…I had another connecting flight to Toronto from AMS….Flight experience was good no hiccups found…..flight was fairly on time…Those who plan to fly in near future from New Delhi….i can personally recommend this flight….
4 PM local time I landed in Toronto…..co-incidentally lot of other flights landed at the same time…..hence there was lot of rush….I was directed to Immigration section….again a long queue…..staff was quite decent they asked my family move ahead in waiting lounge and myself to remain in queue….In spite of long queue there only two attendants….to handle new immigrants……….my number came after wait of 45 minutes……..Lady on the counter was quite courteous …asked for COPR and Passport….asked my family details….like where I am coming from, do I plan to go back in near future, my residence address in Canada.....proof of funds…..
She herself filled the copy of COPR and asked my address in Canada where PR cards would be delivered…….asked me to get the copy of COPR signed by my wife….again asked me about the Proof of funds….how much in Cash and Cards etc….but didn’t ask me to show proofs in actuals……..she was OK with my answers and asked to move further…..
Next to her there was a counter to welcome the new immigrants….they provided us with a kit and a bag full of leaflets explaining what benefits could be availed as Permanent immigrant.
Later we reached Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) counter…where the officer sitting asked us to do a declaration of good we have bought from India…..he even asked me to show Proof of Funds…I showed him Cash…which he didn’t bother to count and showed him the cards and Scotia Bank Statement. (which I opened proactively from India and deposited the CAD $$)….We told him that we are expecting some jewelry in near future…he was upset with this and asked me to provide the pictures which I didn’t have …but somehow he agreed to add the same in documents…..he gave us one document explaining value of goods we were carrying and value of Gold….and asked us to mail the pictures….Finally he let us go…we boarded a Taxi for Mississauga and headed for our Destination……
Next day We went to Services Ontario for SIN number which as issued immediately…same day I went to Health Services for Health card…..we applied for the same…and will receive after 3 months…..
For those who plan to land in near future….please take care of following points::
• Please carry proof funds they anytime they might ask.
• Please be prepared as CBSA officer even might ask to open luggage as I saw another office asking a Pakistani gentleman to open entire luggage….
• If you have any Gold please do not forget to have the pictures of the same…CBSA officer will definitely ask for the same…
• In order to apply for Health Card please make sure you have address proof…..For e.g. Document carrying SIN number or SIN card, Phone bill or Statement for accounts from Bank…..Please be advised only statement from bank is valid no other document will suffice the purpose…..
