Hi AAJ,

I am also going to Calgary. My landing date would be 9th June. I also comes under NOC 1111.

Cheers,
Anubhav

Welcome to the pool Anubhav. Good to see another member under same NOC. :)

Seems that you have already booked the ticket and hence sure about your landing date. Have you done arrangements for your initial stay there?

Hi Rahul,

Good to see you as well... and repeating, but really happy to see another accountant who is settling in Calgary. :)

June/July will be good for you since it is the summer time there and you will get chance to visit Calgary Stampede there in July... :)

Being from Pakistan, I have booked flight from PIA via Toronto. But generally people book KLM, which seems to be the best option considering the price and quality of service. I have not booked any accommodation because I am planning to stay initially with my relatives there for short period. Once I am there, I shall search for a place to live.

I shall PM you my contact details to keep in touch.

Hi Guys,

calgary is the right choice for a new immigrant to come as there are plenty job oppurtunities compared to toronto where most of our new immigrants go.

about climate yes it is colder than toronto but calgary has chinook winds which will surprisingly give you nice warmth even in the clodest days on an average this year i think toronto was more colder then calgary even when i am writing this message it is 5 degrees outside and -6 in toronto.

right now calgary is booming with lots of new immigrants coming because of the job situation.

the rents here are typically 1000$ to 1600$ for a 1 or 2 bedroom flat or house.
other expense like grocery can be ne thing between 500$ to 1000$ permonth.

the next thing is you need to get a driving license asap as it is the next requirement after food and shelter then its kids schooling.

all in all if your really plan well things can be really smooth and fast.

setteling time intially just to get the jet lag out 1 week then job doing paper work and job search house search might take one month in all .

everysituation is different but if you get the right help and advice things can really move faster.

soo guys keep in touch i can give different helps as per different requirements, but definately no shortage of advice take it or leave ne time.

best of luck guys

Hi
Nice to see a helping hand. It is really nice of you volunteering. I would like to know about construction industry if someone wants to start as a beginner, any references if you have, plus if someone wants to do any medical related courses like lab assistant, pharmacy assistant, unit clerk, are there enough jobs worth spending the money on these courses. My background is medical transcription but i am seriously thinking of getting into construction. any help will be very much appreciated. Plus if u can PM ur contact that would be awesome.
thanks

Thanks AAJ and Rahul Datta,

Yes, I have booked tickets for Calgary for myself, spouse and infant daughter through British Airways for 9th June. I am talking to my younger brother’s business partner who is helping me in getting a 1BHK house. She said it won’t be more than $1,000 but it’s unfurnished.
I am really worried about job. How to start, where to start, what to do first etc.
AAJ/RAHUL: - Are you guys professionally qualified?

Dear Sirs

For newly landed immigrants in Calgary, one must visit "Newcomers Society or CCIS , http://www.ccis-calgary.ab.ca/

They help , by refereeing for jobs and also refer / provides short term courses funded by the government.
