Hi All,

I will be landing in a few weeks and had a few questions that I am currently researching in terms of the landing process and goods to follow form for customs. Thought it might be useful to create a thread where all of us who have gotten our PRs recently through EE can share experiences. I have a few questions and would appreciate if people who have gone through the process can shed some light on.

1). What is the process at Toronto after you leave the plane?

- My understanding is that we first go to immigration, who review and then sign and stamp both COPRs and keep the CIC copy and take a Canadian address where the PR card will be mailed. Proof of funds maybe reviewed for outland FSW. Do we have to provide any photos for PR cards? If not do they use the photo from the CIC COPR copy or they use the original photo that was loaded with our application. I am asking this as one photo for me was glued to the CIC COPR and the second photo was returned to me. They didn't keep any photos so not sure where they get the photo from for the card (they only asked for 2 photos with PPR).

- After Immigration we go through customs where the goods to follow list is reviewed along with other items that we are bringing.

- After clearing customs we are able to get the SIN number right at the airport. Is this correct? If so do we get this after clearing immigration or customs?

2). Goods to follow list. How long is this list valid for? I have read on several places on the forum that it is only valid for a year. Is this correct? I maybe bring items on goods to follow list after 1.5 years. If the validity is 1 year is there anyway to extend the time to bring these goods?
-Also I read somewhere that we have to bring two copies of goods to follow list and get it stamped by the officer. Would appreciate if anyone with recent experience can please provide feedback.
-Do we have to list all cash that we may be bringing in the future through bank transfers on this list also?

Thank you in advance for your help and good luck to everyone with the process!

Haven't landed as PR but moved here almost 4 years ago so might be able to help with a couple of things.

You'll clear passport control before you hit immigration where they will then do your COPR etc but expect a bit of a wait if there are a couple of flights that arrive at the same time. You DON'T get your SIN at the airport, you need to go to a Service Canada for this once you get to wherever you are living. You will then need to get your health card - in Ontario, you go to a Service Ontario centre for them.

Once you've cleared immigration you then get taken to a separate room and give over all the documents relating to your 'goods to follow'. They take a look at them and give you a receipt confirming they've been looked at.

Not sure about the photos for PR, someone else might be able to help. Good luck!!

Correction : Person with COPR get the SIN at airport. When you come with Temp resident VISA at that time you need to go to service cnada to get the SIN. one of my friend just landed from India and she told me that she got the SIN at airport....

Yes, Nowadays you get SIN at the airport. Previously, you had to go to SC.

Interesting! Although, we're planning on flagpoling so will still need to go to Service Canada

Thats interesting. I landed with my wife on Toronto Pearson at 14th Jan. We didn't get a SIN at airport. We have to go to Service Canada

That's weird, lol. I know from couple of my friends who did flagpole and received SIN at the border.

Maybe if You land at airport you've to go through Service Canada.
If Flagpole then right away ?

Not much information is given on their website either.

There is a Service Canada desk at Pearson. However, they close shop at 8 PM. If you finish your landing formalities by 7:30 PM, you will be able to get your SIN at the airport. Their desk is right across the room from the landing immigration counters.

However, if you get there later than that, you'll still easily be able to get your SIN at any Service Canada office in the city. We got ours the day after landing (late flight) and the whole process didn't take more than 30 mins.

Good luck!
