Passport is requested when the visa office has finished background checks, received the results of your medical exam and done with the security check. When your original passport is requested by the visa office, it means that they are going to issue a PR visa already.

Since you are just about to send in your PR application, it might take some time for your passport to be requested. Anyways, the visa office will give you instructions on how to send in your passport once you are at that stage in the process already.

Not yours. Never the passport of the sponsor. The purpose of requesting the passport is to stamp the visa counterfoil in it after a decision has been made and PR granted so the applicant can "land" in Canada. You, as a Canadian, don't need a PR visa.

Toronto is perhaps the busiest local office in the country...
2 months to receive an appointment and the appointment itself for a month later in Scarborough.
