Story!:
Yesterday afternoon I received the passports by mail. I took off from work and went home, had lunch and picked up my wife and documents and headed to Fort Erie for landing. (Documents: I pretty much took all relevant documents with me T4s, Notice of Assessments, Work permits, SIN cards, Paystubs, Offer Letter, Other employment Letters, LMO)
We reached Fort Erie and straight headed for landing. As I read in this forum, I was able to find the "Back to Canada" u turn spot, just before the bridge. Took a u-turn there, and went up to a booth that was empty. I was greeted by a CBSA officer:
Officer: Where do you live?
Me: Kitchener-Waterloo (I handed over our passports open and with IM-1 visa page facing up)
Officer: (Looking at the passports and visa) So you came to land today?
Me: Yes.
Officer: Do you have any goods to follow?
Me: No.
Officer: (finished writing a yellow slip) Do you know where to go?
Me: Park the car and to this building?
Officer: Yes, park your car there, and enter the building. There will be officers there to help you with further processing. (handed our passports to us with the yellow slip)
I parked the car and proceeded to the port of entry. It was more of a booth, like a bank's teller counter. As we were entering, an officer came by and asked us, why were we there, and I said, landing. He said, wait here for the next officer. We waited. (2 minutes) We were called to the booth.
Officer: Good Afternoon
Me: Good Afternoon (handed the passports, yellow slip, COPR to him)
Officer: Oh! You are landing. Good.
Me: Thanks.
Officer asked the person sitting next to him O1: this is sw2 do they need landing funds? O2: Yes
Officer (to me): Do you have proof of funds
Me: Hummmm... This is FSW2, with AEO (Arranged employment offer), I work here for the last 2.5 yrs on WP
Officer: Oh! Then do you have your employer letter?
Me: Yes (I handed out all emp related letters), I also have NOA and T4s if that would help you.
Officer: Nah! This should be good.
(He was busy typing and cracking jokes like....give me 5 minutes and i will congratulate you soon)
Officer (after 5 mins): Alright, before you sign, have any of you been arrested, convicted or asked to leave canada?
Us: No
Officer: ok then, Please sign this. Here, Here and here.
(We signed!)
Officer: Congratulations, you are now permanent residents. You will receive your card in 1-2 months. If you leave the country you will have to get a temporary entry permit.
Us: Thank you very much.
Officer: Welcome. Have a good day.
(We smiled at him and walked out)
We came outside it was raining, and we went to the car, paid $3 toll and drove to tim hortons for a coffee. I got out of the car infront of Tims and started jumping (really!). Its been quite a ride!! 7days shy of 2 years 2 months.
