Hi,

Just to hopefully provide information on my timeline for those who might be on the same boat.

In Canada since December 2010 with a work permit, obtained Quebec's Certificate of Selection on April 2011.
Applied for federal skilled worker program in July 2011.
Medical exams and AOR in November 2011.
Passport request and passport submitted on May 7 2103, got it back on May 16 2013. Landed on the same day.

COPR arrived with wrong marital status. Went anyways, since name, DOB and citizenship were correct. Officer at POE corrected it.

Cheers and good luck!

Congratz hagbard85 :)

Do you mind to share some details how the immigration officer correct your marital status on CoPR? My wife had same issue here. She just got her CoPR today which shows "single" but we actually got married last winter. We sent email to cic about this change but apparently they didn't get it. I am already a PR in Canada. Do you have similar situation?

Thanks.

Hi gimy,

My wife was already a PR when I applied. We were married in 2010, and this was stated on my 2011 application.

When I received my COPR, the status listed was "single" instead of "married".

I suppose the question is, when you applied, how did you indicate your relationship with your now wife? I notice that she got also a COPR, so she was included somehow in your application. If you listed her as your dependent in your application at some point, and this was recognized by CIC when they sent you two COPR's (one for you and one for your wife), I think there is not a problem and the officer at the POE can make the correction. In my case he just annotated "married" and crossed "single" in my landing paper, and he put that information on the computer.

Hope it helps.

Thanks hagbard85.

I see. My situation is a bit different from yours. I am already a PR when my wife submitted her application. However at that time, we were not married yet. So her application has no my information and shows her as single.

She sent an email to CIC to address the marital status change after our weeding last year. However, CIC seems not receive it. Therefore, when my wife got her CoPR yesterday, it still shows single. So seems she have two options here:

1. Same as you, just go to POE to land and inform them of the marital status change.
2. Inform CIC about the marital status change and wait for them to re-issue a correct visa/CoPR.

Option 1 is the easiest for her, but this seems not recommended. According to my research, this may lead to misrepresentation issue and the officer at the border may even invalidate her visa. While for option 2, I don't know how long this re-issue process will take. So a bit frustrated here. :(

My very personal opinion is that you won't have any problem since you were already a PR when your now wife submitted her application. There would be a problem if you did not have the PR at the time, because that would mean that CIC has to evaluate your admissibility, education, background, etc. However, this does not apply to you since you were a PR at the time.

Assuming that you two are living in Canada, my suggestion is that you go to the POE, stop at the Canadian office first, and ask the officer about your situation. Take with you the email you sent to CIC as proof that you let CIC know about your wife's new marital status. I would then ask the officer if the situation requires that you communicate further with CIC, or if he can make the change. Since you are already a PR, no evaluation or further checks on you would be needed; my guess is that he will tell you that everything is OK.

As I said, I would stop at the Canadian office first before doing the flagpole at the U.S. office. Otherwise, I agree that the Canadian officer might see the situation as misrepresentation. Stopping with them first and ask for advice would be hardly considered wrong.

Cheers

Thanks hagbard85. I took your advice and we went to the border to consult the officer. As you said, since I am already a PR, the marital status error is not a very big issue here. So they helped us to correct it in the system and my wife did her landing today.~~

Really appreciate your advice. Thx.:)

Hello, I was read your posts and thinking that maybe you guys could help me. I am not a PR but I Got my COPR two times so far once it was last year in MAY 2012 but i have to send it to immigration because i got married in-between and applied with my wife's file at that time. I got mine and my wife's updated COPR on 31 July 2013, but there is a mistake in my COPR again saying that I am single but my wife's COPR is all correct (status showed as married).
I have a valid TRV visa till NOV.2013

I have already sent a message to CPP-Ottawa regarding the mistake.

I was thinking to do the same thing as you guys to go to the border and inform the mistake there.
OR should I wait for the reply?

Please reply Soon...I have waited long time to Get to my PR.. but still missing it...

I would suggest since you already applied, it's good you wait for the reply before taking any further steps. Besides, the fact that it worked out well for them doesn't mean it will for you. Just saying.
