Dear All,
My landing is 20 December 2011, but I kept travelling outside Canada and I have in excess of 240 days spent abroad since I became a PR.
My question is, can I apply now before the 4 out of 6 deadline or do I have to compensate the 240 days that I spent abroad here in Canada and then apply? Please let me know what needs to be done ASAP.

Input your dates in the on-line residency calculator and you'll get the answer.

Bottom line is that you need to have 1095 days of physical presence in Canada. If you are trying to avoid the 4/6 rule, its not a good idea.

When you meet the residency requirement, that time is the best to apply for citizenship else your application will be delayed by years and will yield no positive result.

If you qualify while 3/4 rule is in effect, apply after you have completed 1095 days of physical presence. If new 4/6 rule applies then you have to qualify according to its requirements.

Applying short of days just to avoid new 4/6 rule is absolutely a bad idea.

By the way, if you don't mind me asking, what was the reason you were outside Canada for so much time(240 days)?
