@ Francomaj,

Pls what is the effect of joining a professional body on getting a job in quebec, like to join Canadian Risk Management (CRM), Institute of credit or any professional body.
Does this help wave a situation where you need to present canadian certificate.
Fiirm,

You'd have to join the professional body if your occupation is regulated. You don't necessarily have to present a Canadian certificate as your Nigerian qualifications would most likely be recognized should they be considered equivalent to their Canadian (Quebec) counterpart.

Hi Egrace1,

1) My CSQ took 5 weeks to process.
2) I got my Medical Request from CHC London. I resided in the UK at the time so I never had to deal with Accra.
3) 5 months
4) I took off from London Heathrow. Landing was smooth. We just told the immigration officer at the point of entry that we were new immigrants who wanted to `land`. She (a beautiful one at that) asked a few questions (I remember she asked how much money we had on us), asked for a Quebec address so she could get our PR cards processed and sent over, and then asked us to sign the COPR. She thereafter showed us to the Quebec Immigration office just behind her desk to complete the Quebec part of the landing-- that involved a 5 minute chat with a Quebec immigration officer who formally welcomed us to Quebec and then set up an appointment for later in the week for proper briefing. You would recall that I specifically mentioned in one of my earlier posts that you would be properly briefed on how to make the best out of Quebec... The briefing would take place at this appointment.

As far as I am aware, there have been no changes to the landing procedure.

Hello Abehola,

Chances of getting a grant or scholarship cannot be determined before hand as they are normally a function of the amount of funding available to your department of choice versus the number of students qualified for such funding. The Quebec Loans and Bursary program is, however, open to all and sundry but subject to your earnings the previous year. If, for instance, your annual income for 2010 was $40,000, you wont get as much in bursary in 2011 as someone who earned $20k during the same fiscal year.

Cheers
Thanks Francomaj, just getting to read this.
During your landing were you asked to show the funds you had on you to ascertain it was the required amount? Just curious.

Abehola,

No, I wasn't asked to show the money. I was just asked how much I had on me, but trust me, you really need that money. Thank God I had more than enough on me at the time.

@ Egrace,

(1) It took 5 weeks. No, I had no pre-arranged job offer. I guess I must have been on an expedited processing list. Besides, it was a lot faster back then. Just to clarify: I went through the normal QSW route.

(3) Yeah ... the federal part took 5-6 months. Like I said earlier, things worked much faster back then.

(4) The COPR (Confirmation of Permanent Residence) form is normally produced in both English and French, i.e. English texts with French translations right underneath.

@ Reddish:

Congrats. Where are you headed? Toronto?

Hi Egrace,

We're all right, thanks for asking. How are you too? Yes, you're correct. French lessons can be organized in the workplace. Click this link or more info: http://www.immigration-quebec.gouv.qc.ca/en/french-language/learning-quebec/courses-workplace.html

Cheers
