I was really happy when I read that your PR came on 30th day. Congrats. It shows some of us who needs it early should expect it that early.

I am thinking about buying a bankdraft worth of 14,000USD from GTB and hold 3000USD as cash. Will it be easy for me to pay in the bankdraft into an account over there. Please advice me since you guys have landed and have opened accounts over there. How early can one have access to the money after paying the bank draft into a newly opened account.

You can carry all in cash you will be fine, let it be on you though don't go and check it in oooo lol

@ TJ2010 hmmm mm mm what can I say? It would have been different if you were asking for our view but as it is you have paid already so there is little we can do. Please the friend that helped you paid for this rent is he aware that after payment your POF might not be complete? If yes why did he not help you get a chePer apartment?

As per whether the rent would count as part of proof of fund is at the discretion of the immigration officer, many times they don't even ask to see so you might just walk free but if they do then you might just have to tell them you came with 16,000 and the balance is in account in Nigeria with the hope they won't ask further questions.

Please don't tell them you have spent 8600 on two months rent alone oooooooo remember the POF is suppose to carry you for 6 months meaning the 20k is to be spent on an average of 3200k a month accommodation and other expenses inclusive so you can't defend 8600 for 2 months accomodtion, however if you have enough POF then you can go ahead and pay any amount for rent.

@ all please let's utilise this forum to the maximum and get as much information as we can get so we can make informed decisions at all times. Canada is expensive at least when you have not started earning hence every dime has to be judiciously utilised.

I would not advise a fully or partly furnished apartment for two months for anyone except if the person plans to land, document, collect PR card and then return back to Naija that way a furnished apartment might be okay but even at that please go for cheaper ones!!!

On a lighter note we got our PR Card yesterday it came exactly one month after landing we bless God.

Good day to you my Seniors, I intend landing with my family by first week in July, and am trying to get good and affordable tickets. I plan to go to IOM in Ikoyi, but I have read of how people complain bout their services, so am thinking of other alternatives ...my destination is Winnipeg...Not withstanding I would still get to IOM, but your suggestions of other options would definitely help out...@Sis Tinuadebola thumbs up for the beautiful work, I pray God continually favours U on all sides, @ all... You can try to check Emirate, i guess its cheaper.
I got about 630k for a family of 4, 2 adult, 1 child and 1 infant on a one way

u r welcome. No agent is need, all u need to do is go to their website, search for flights depending on your family composition, departure date and destination. then u you can do the booking, after booking u will av to make payment into their dollar acct or naira acct wt citi bank lagos within five days.

N.B- i am yet to pay for my booking cos i jst find out Qatar airways is also not bad in terms of rates, so i'm still holding on before i make my final payment wt emirate. Find below site for both airlines and make sure u do your proper finding before you make payment. its very simple.

Remember they go thru different routes, for Emirate; Lagos -Dubai-Toronto and Qatar; Lagos -doha -Montreal, from montreal u will join another flight to Toronto. Am sorry I don't know much about that aspect my youngest is 7 and in school at the moment so no need for child care! Benefit starts counting from the day you land but how soon you get it depends on many factors chief of which is time you submit the application. I must however warn that if this your two months stay is for the whole family then you don't try t collect benefit for a child not resident here ooooo cause if the child returns back to Naija and benefit is being paid that might spell trouble!!! I heard a story recently of a couple that was called randomly by GOVT agent and they were asked the school and health details of th kids thank God the kids were on ground.

Asper food, all food stuff is certainly cheaper at home than in Canada so bring what is most dear to you. i advise women to come with plenty egusi (melon) if you like it like me cause it's expensive here, I came with grinded egusi and pepper and put them in transparent ziplock bags, you can also come with garri and other stuff but not to the point of paying excess luggage .

Thanks Toyeen for the compliments and am sure shady has answered your questions you can actually check as many airline as possible but keep in mind the issue of transit visa where necessary, the wait hours, the no of stops and the age of the kids travelling where applicable. At some point we need to do a trade off with a little more money and a little more. Comfort but nothing extravagant!!!

All the best but please check out IOM, forgive them their misbehaviour in advance and focus on the benefit that comes with it!!!
