Hi All,

I would like to share our landing experience. We landed Toronto on 8th of July evening. Our flight was from Dubai and it took approx 15 hours to reach YYC, Toronto. The flight was Emirates A380, which was comfortable with enough leg space and entertainment for the kids. It was our visa validation trip and we decided to explore Toronto and surrounding areas during this time so that we will get at least some idea about the city and its surroundings…

The flight landed 4 in the evening at YYC. We filled the embarkation card from the flight itself; one card is enough for 4 members of the family. We moved first to Passport Control Section. We told the Officer that we are landing for the first time and he cancelled the embarkation card with his signature and welcomed us to Canada and directed us to the new immigrants section, which is different than other passengers.

Only one family was there before us in the queue and we were called by one young lady Officer within 5 minutes. She asked me the age of my kids, from where we are coming now and how much money we are carrying etc. She checked all our Passports and COPR, cancelled our Canada visas and asked us to sign in the COPR. She stapled the last copy of the COPR with our respective Passports. We gave our friends address for sending PR Cards. She told that it will be reaching within 30 working days. She was very polite, supportive and asked if we have any doubts, ask her. We told no, then she welcomed all of us to Canada and told that we became Permanent Residents of Canada!! It took approx 15 minutes to complete the formalities for 4 of us.

Then she directed us to new immigrants section, where we got some brochures for settlers, bag etc. We also got application form for child care benefits, brochure about SIN application formalities etc..

Next we moved to collect our baggage. We had only 2 bags and we don’t have 2 dollar coin, one of the helper gave us coins for 10 dollar and we took our bags and moved to Customs area. We told the customs officer that we have goods to follow, he directed us to another nearby area.

We gave Customs Officer B4 and B4A forms and he stamped and signed all the pages of Goods to follow list including the pictures of gold ornaments. He asked me to fill serial Nos of my laptop and SLR camera which was accompanying with us in the goods accompany list. Finally he gave us receipt for goods to follow with zero value. He told us to carry the receipt along with goods to follow. He also signed one copy of the goods accompany list and returned to us. Finally he also welcomed us to Canada. Total it took hardly 45-60 minutes to complete all the formalities…

Our friend was waiting outside and we moved to their house near to Scarborough. The climate was good with temp of 25 plus. Canada is full of greeneries and a 100% multicultural society. There is no majority nationality, Asians, Americans, Canadians, Africans and all. We will never feel that we are an alien there.

Next day (Saturday) morning we drove to Niagara Falls. We spent lot of time near the falls and went to the top of Skylon Tower. From the Tower you will get amazing view of the entire Niagara city including American city. After that we went to Marine Land near the Falls and the kids enjoyed the rides and other activities. Again we came back to the Falls to get the view of the Falls in the night. We took a boat ride (Maid of the Mist) which will take you beneath the falls….

Sunday, we went to see African Lion Safari, which was also an experience for us especially for the kids. Monday morning we went to Canada Service Center, Scarborough City Centre for SIN registration. They open their office at 8 30 AM and it took hardly 20-30 minutes to get SIN Nos for all of us. The Officer told that we will get our SIN Cards in 10 working days time.

We took Rapid Transit System (RT) and went to Downtown. Everything is so systematic and if you have a map with you, you can travel everywhere in the city without any tension, that’s the system they are following. We went to CN Tower and saw the whole Toronto city from the top. What a view!! After that we went to see Royal Ontario Museum (ROM). We took city pass to see major 5 attractions of Toronto. They are ROM, CN Tower, Casa Loma, Toronto Zoo and Science Centre.

We took a 3 day package tour of Safeway Travels to see Kingston, Ottawa, 1000 islands, Montreal and Quebec city. The trip was so good and we really liked the cities especially Montreal and Quebec. You will get lots of Asians in Toronto, but in Montreal and Quebec, Asians are very few. Almost all name boards etc are in French. Through the trip, we got the geographic and other differences of these Canadian cities. Our main aim was to learn Canada this time. When we move permanently here, we will be busy with job hunting, house searching etc etc…

You will get almost all newspapers free of cost nearer to all bus stops, subway stations etc. Separate papers available for job searching etc.

We will be back on 20th of this month….. What I want to mention is…… it is worth….. If you are ready to sacrifice a little… ready to struggle.. and enough patience…. Canada will give you everything…..

Best of luck to all…..

Good to know youve had plenty of fun upon reaching in Toronto.
Why are you going back? What do you think the job condition is now in Canada?
Are there many jobs being created?
