No, not for Ontario as they have a 3 month wait period before you can apply for an Ontario Health Insurance Plan.

Congrats, how long did it take for the paperwork to be done?

Whether in Ontario or Alberta, the health care coverage requires that you stay at least 6 out of 12 months in the province. Otherwise you're not deemed eligible to apply for the provincial health care. As you're planning to leave and return after a year, you should not apply now.

For details on Alberta health care check AHCIP eligibility criteria at http://www.health.alberta.ca/AHCIP/registration-requirements.html

It wasn't busy day but immigration took more than 1 hr as there was only one IO processing new immigrant cases, 20 min for SIN number issuance for our family of 5 and custom took another 30 min as our goods to follow lst was not itemized . I categorized jewelry as bangles x 12 value xxxxx, I was asked to itemized each item separately.

They asked how much money I carry nobody checked.

1. PR cards will take 72 calendar days as of today. 6 weeks is the standard that the IO say at the POE , may be they dont update themselves on the backlogs, lol

2. To apply for OHIP you should show proof of address of residing in Ontario. It is mandatory and they will ask for it ( bank statement, credit card statement, rental agreement, utility bills etc ).

many congrats for a smooth landing. Looks like you are there for a short stay to get the necessary docs ready. Great, wish you very best of luck.

Few questions

1. I guess you are five including three kids, so how much is it costing you to stay in a hotel !
2. Do they accept the hotel address for SIN / PR, if you intend to stay in a hotel for more than two months !

Thanks

Hi Maran1976,

Have you landed in Toronto already and applied for Health Cards? As per the information I have, Ontario is one of the few provinces that requires you to live in the province for a certain number of days before they will give you health coverage. Can you confirm if you were able to apply for OHIP as soon as you landed, if so can you share the process?

Regards,

Yes, landed and applied for the cards. The cover starts from 3 months of your arrival in Ontario. I applied two weeks back, I will get my cards a week before I am eligible (thats two months from now), which mark my 3 months of arrival. Its not 3 months from date of application, its 3 months from date of arrival that the cover starts. Its best to apply as soon as you get an address proof, as its a mandatory document.

They give a letter after application, that's good enough to register with a doctor if the health cards are delayed. For adults, we get photo card, for kids , the card does not have photo.

Hi maran 1976. I am kinda of curious about the processing time, is the date for the newly-applied cards holders on that day or for those who applied the cards but have not got yet? Since the date is changing from time to time, it can be quite good to know the deadline to call CIC in order to avoid further delay for PRC. Thanks in advance,

Qiao

dear asif Bhai, can you please share some more details about studio 6, is it a hotel, or homestay ! Is it sufficient to accommodate a family of five with adequate privacy. What amenities does it include in the rent which seems pretty decent,
