Hi Rocky,

Thanks for the reply.
Are the funds taken into canada on the second visit (after the intial landing),taxable. If yes,can this be avoided by declaring it in the goods to follow list (although these are not goods per se).Is there any provision, pls let me know.

Thanks
that's the answer i want. we have a ancestral property here and it is situated at a good location. we are planning to sell it after a year or so. and after that i want to take my share to Canada. anybody can answer that?

As I mentioned earlier, ICICI Bank has a branch in Canada and one can open NRO/NRE + Local Canadian Branch account there.

Check the link for more details.

you can opt for Immigration trust in Canada. you can put in money into the trust for yrs after ur day of arrival. it can also include capital gain from sale of property and it will all be tax free. giving you link of the trust.hope it helps

Halo Friends,

Can u pls tell me how can i get transit visa please, from where i can get it and how long it takes

Abhishek

visitor-in-transit visa fee is like 3500/- approx

and you need to fill the form and attach some supporting documents

this visa is valid for 6 months and multiple but you are permitted to stay for less than 48 hrs

Post by tonyelbatal Thanks Tony for sharing the information

Hi everybody!

My name is Tony for those who don't know me already, I've landed in Montreal's airport yesterday and here's my experience:
- I went from Lebanon to Montreal through Middle East Airlines to Paris (CDG) then through Air Canada to Montreal Trudeau International Airport. The flight with Air Canada was really great. They are so kind and great service. But beware, try to sleep before your flight, I couldn't sleep, neither on the long flights so I ended awake for around 36 hours in total. But that was good since I accommodated to the 7 hours difference directly in 1 day!
- Now, arrived at Montreal's Trudeau airport, immigration officers were VERY kind, really. Very smooth landing procedure, took 45min only, everyone was so nice, they didn't ask for list of items coming/following, they gave me all the documents I need, all smiling and telling me "Welcome to Canada". That was a great experience...
- Today (2nd day) went and did my medical insurance card (RAMQ), was fast, as usual people very helpful, then went to do the SIN (Social Insurance), also was fast, knowing that you have to wait in line. Then I went and opened a bank account at TDC, but the only thing that happened is that they told me the certified money cheque I have from my home country needed around 40 days to be active, so I didn't like that. But I will try to find another solution.
- I tried Bus/Metro and Train, all are good and very easy going, you really feel you don't need a car.
- People are very nice, smiling and very respectful.
- Weather is fine, was around 9 degrees C but windy (feels like 2) but it's good.
- What I noticed is that you can speak both French and English almost anywhere.

All in all, it is a great experience so far, I will keep you updated of any news. Good luck for all of you

My dear friends Navvy and rocky272727 are absolutely right,to get visa for 'vistor in transit' is a simple procedure and fees is also much nominal, but I guess for it one may have to appear personally at British high Commission New Delhi.

Any ways here are the link for all sort of basic info about this special visa;
