I came to Canada under a temp. work permit, but was laid off last week. Union got involved but my employer didn't seem interested in me anymore. Is there any grace period I am able to take care my apt., car, and stuffs? Or I have to leave immediately after the negotiation is done? Can I find myself another employer then get HRSDC approval in Canada? Or I have to restart everything again?

BTW, I've submitted my PR application last month. Will my laid-off hurt the PR application?

1. You can stay to the expiry of the work permit.
2. If you can get another employer who will apply for an LMO, you could apply for a change in work permit as long as yours has not expired, you cannot start work until you receive the new work permit.
3. Lay off has no effect.

Thank you for your help. My work permit won't expire until 2009. Now I am able to take a deep breath and get some good night sleep.

I submit my application to CIC Oct. 28, 2012, and currently in the process but the problem is I have not heard anything from CIC and my time in Canada only until February. My question is about how long it itakes for my work my permit to be approved? what should I do? Your answers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks :)
