Looking for some reassurance here.
My husband and I have nearly concluded the family class process - he's an American citizen who lives in San Diego, but we're in a position to have him visit me for long periods of time. A family member was taking in his mail and was told that if anything came from the Canadian consulate in L.A, it should be flagged for us immediately.
Over the holidays, this family member took an extended vacation and as a result, we did not discover that the letter requesting my husband's passport and photos had arrived until more than 2 months after it was dated as sent. There didn't appear to be a limit on how much time we have to send his passport in to the Los Angeles office, but I'm still worried.
What has been your experience with this final step?
Has anyone out there taken a month or two to send in their passport and been turned away?
What happens if you're outside the time limit - do you have to start the application all over again?
Is it possible or advisable for him to send his passport from here in Canada (he's not planning to return to the U.S. until the end of Febrary - well within the 6-month limit for visitors)?
How long does it generally take for the Los Angeles consulate to return a passport, once they've received it?
Is there anything else we should know about this final stage of the family class sponsorship?
Any assistance is greatly appreciated.
