Lack of COPR Letter to hand and re-entry

I received an email to check my account on Thursday; The status was updated to say my application is closed and it was approved.
It says I should receive an email with further instructions on what to do, that email hasn't come yet.

I understand that the COPR letter is sent through the mail. It takes approximately three days (Expresspost within Canada) from their office to my place. However, I am flying out of the country this Thursday morning for Christmas. The letter might not arrive before I am gone.

On my return, if I have not got my COPR Letter in hand, will i have problems getting back into Canada? What sort of trouble could I expect?

Has anyone had an experience such as this that they could share their story?

Thanks in advance.

I am implying you have a visa-exempt passport to enter Canada, since you are waiting for only the COPR letter. No worries reentering Canada, you just won't be a PR yet, that's all. You'll just have to have the COPR letter signed later at a port of entry or a CIC office appointment before the expiry date.

Yes I am visa-exempt. So you're saying the border officer will let me re-enter the country on my temporary worker status?

Did you do something similar?

Best option is to get your hands on the COPR letter so that you can return to Canada using it.

If you're visa exempt, you now need an eTA to re-enter as a visitor or foreign worker. You can't re-enter on your passport and work permit alone. You won't even be able to board the plane for Canada.

You can find info about the eTA process here:

Thanks, I know that part about the eTA.

As for the COPR letter, I would love to have it but it's out of my hands. Either the COPR letter comes by Wednesday or I am already not here when it does come.

With the Christmas holidays even if I got a friend to collect my mail and FedEx it to me abroad- it probably wouldn't get to me before I'd be due back in Canada again.

Do they issue the COPR Letter to you straight away after they make a decision on your application?

Good point, I'd forgotten about the eTA.

It usually takes about 2-3 business days after approval for CPC to return the self-address Express Post envelope, plus the 3 days you mentioned to get to your address.

Ugh, likely to not arrive before I leave then, maybe not even till I am back given the Christmas holidays mean less days to mail things.

If I explain at the border on my return, do you think they will allow me re-enter on my work permit, given I won't have yet received the COPR Letter?
