Hello,

I am an international student with a full time job offer. My employer has applied LMIA for the position I am currently hired for. I have been working since 2 months now.

Please may I know if I am eligible to receive 600 points for LMIA supported job offer? Will I need to work full year to apply under express entry?

Thanks.

U will receive 600 points if ur LMIA application gets a positive result

Thank you for your reply.

If my employer has already filled an LMIA before hiring me, do they need to re-submit an application specifically under my name after hiring me. What would be a good way to ask my employer in order to receive the 600 points?

Thanks.

The best way to ask them is by truthfully telling them that this is how you get to become a PR and asking for their support in that process.

Do remember that an LMIA process might risk your existing employment because your employer will have to advertise your job on the open market for at least 4 weeks, interview applicants who line up and then provide a valid reasoning to ESDC about how you are the only one qualified enough of all the other applicants be offered that job and paid at least median wage. And I'm still making it sound easier than it is.

Read the process here ---> http://www.esdc.gc.ca/eng/jobs/foreign_workers/higher_skilled/permanent/index.shtml

All the best!

I know the LMIA processes is really a tough one ....

I am actually stuck here coz of tht . My employer has been really helpful in applying for BC PNP ..now i really dont feel like pushing him to apply for LMIA .Also its really hard to meet the critirias before applying for LMIA by the employer

Even your job is advertised and someone qualifies comes up, your employer is not obligated to hire him/her. So you can keep your job. It's just that ESDC will know that, and reject your LMIA and all that work would be in vain. Which is exactly my case right now (And Even nobody applied, there are more requirements and interviews by Service Canada for an approval)

With the current economic situation in Canada (especially in Prairies) I don't think there will be any jobs that nobody wants.

Thank you for your replies.

My employer have applied LMIA for the position I am presently working for. Is LMIA employee specific? Does my employer has to resubmit LMIA application as they hired someone with a PGWP?

Yes.

No.

I'm in the same situation - my LMIA was approved yesterday.

Hello Kateg,

If you have read through this post you already know that I am on PGWP and working a full time permanent job. I recently came to know that my employer has applied for LMIA for the position I am working on. Is that LMIA of any use to me as it was not under my name? Also, if I ask my employer to apply LMIA for me, how much is it going to cost him?

Please share your experience of asking you employer for LMIA application.

Your help is appreciated.
Thanks.

LMIAs are good for 6 months. If it hasn't expired, and hasn't been used to get a work permit, then it's of use to you. They will take it into consideration, which can make it easier for him to get a LMIA.

They cost $1,000 per employee.

Please share your experience of asking you employer for LMIA application.

I applied for the job, asked for part time (as a student). I let him know I couldn't work full time unless I had a work permit or P/R. We considered applying for PNP, but it made more sense to wait for Express Entry due to the wait times.

I helped him find the forms, helped him interview the applicants. We submitted it, they complained the advertisements weren't sufficient. So, we readvertised, nobody was qualified, resubmitted. Months and months later, they came back with issues in the application (called the employer). Employer fixed them, resubmitted. Next day, they kicked it back. Fixed and resubmitted, fixed and resubmitted. A couple days later, he got the letter.

Today, I went down to the border, brought the forms, came home with a work permit.

Thank you for your reply. If my HR department already have a valid LMIA, do they need to apply it again for me? I am a bit confuse about it.

coolrc_04, I think what you've been saying is that your employer applied for and received an "unnamed LMIA."

http://www.esdc.gc.ca/eng/jobs/foreign_workers/unnamed_lmo.shtml

When you were hired, however, your employer was supposed to submit your name and details to ESDC/Service Canada, who then will issue an LMIA with your name on it. Probably can still do it - ask your employer. That way you can extend your work permit too, if necessary.

As for your other question, at least one year of full-time (or the equivalent in part-time) skilled work experience is required BEFORE you are eligible to apply for any of the skilled worker programs...
