"koodosimindia" sim card offered at VFS centre in India

My niece is preparing to arrive in Canada this fall. While applying for student visa at VFS centre in India, she was provided with a "Koodo" sim card, which needs to be activated before departing India.

I was looking up the information and it points to the website "koodosimindia.com" which is operated by UNICONNECT.
Does anyone have more information on this? Is this a legit offering from Koodo or a potential scam?

I was already planning to get her a sim card in Canada once she arrives. But the current plans are bit pricey for a student, and the deal offered under this "koodo" sim is very lucrative.

Did you proceed with the activation this sim card? My wife got the same sim card with the same company. I want to know are they charging any hidden fees?
Because the agent from Unniconnect told me the activation fee will be waived off and plan will be $30 for 50GB with $30 amazon gift card.

I did not proceed with this SIM, as one of the step during registration was to provide passport details and such.

I did not feel comfortable sharing the personal details to a site I did not fully trust. I went with Public Mobile sim upon her arrival in Canada. I was able to provide my credit card information for the first month (until her own bank card arrived). So if you have any support / family in Canada, I would say definitely avoid the koodosimindia sim card.

There are sim cards offered at the airport near the arrival gate of all international airports in Canada. Those are licensed and authorized retailers of cellular companies, so you are better off signing up there if you need.

Yes, Uniconnect offers are lucrative. But it comes down to how much do you value your personal information. And for someone starting out in Canada, i would say it is very crucial to maintain a vigilant approach.

Thanks for the update. My wife will be here in Canada in couple of days. So We will buy sim card during boxing day sale.
I was thinking to opt on for the offer from India sim card but before that I want to make sure it's really worth it or not.

Now I am sure and will buy the sim card only from inside Canada.
