Hello Experts!!

I have a friend who possesses many years of experience in restaurant as "Kitchen helper" but being a kitchen helper he also performs the job as cooks.
Is he qualified for express entry under skilled trades? He also got LMIA to apply for this.

Thanks.
Asa

It all depends on the NOC code mentioned on the LMIA to get 600 points, plus he needs at least one year skilled experience in last 10 years.

hi abinto,

The NOC code stated on the LMIA is 6242 -"Cooks" but his experiences inside and outside canada is "kitchen helper" as stated on the employment certificates he receives from the past. The kitchen helper falls on 6711 NOC. Would it need to be specific in job title? or The main duties will be considered?

unfortunately NOC 6711 falls under skill level D, which is not eligible. If he needs to qualify for EE, he needs to have at least one year skilled experience in NOC A,B or O. or he has to work with this LMIA for at least one year.

job title and duties matters too. ask his previous employers to provide him a new reference letter with job title as cook and duties which relates to NOC 6242(if he has worked as a cook).

Thanks Abinto,

Do you think there will be a problem in the future because on his previous work permit applications he declared all this previous experiences as "Kitchen helper" and he is currently on work permit as "kitchen helper" too. So a conflict may arise if he will request change these previous titles into "Cook"?.

Thanks
