Thanks, as I was working on his paperwork ( to send to him to sign) it seemed to me I was doing everything anyways and that it would be better for me to do it all online. I will try to sift through all the responses on here to come up with answers....

Lucky I read quickly..lol

Has anyone had issues with them not believing in the reality at immigration? any suggestions? the lawyer did say it could be difficult because its Jamaica. Ive met most of his family but not mom or son ( I talked to mom) lots of pictures of brothers and cousins and my friend and daughter there too. But there is an age difference and the fact I have not met his son makes me think that can set off red flags. The mom hasn't allowed it, not unlike here sometimes.
WELCOME! Whether or not you use a lawyer depends completely on your level of comfort. Some people prefer them and others don't. I personally don't recommend using a lawyer because like you said, you're doing most of the work yourself. Using a lawyer will not ensure they will believe you are any more genuine than not using a lawyer. And if you don't use a lawyer, CIC and Kingston immigration will speak directly to YOU rather than always waiting on your lawyer for a response as the "go between".

As far as whether or not they will believe you, that is entirely up to your VO and your Application. Just be honest. I will name some red flag instances where people have gotten through:

- Met and Married in 6-9 months
- 10+ years age difference (sometimes 20 years)

And these people have gotten through because they are able to prove it's genuine and ongoing. We are here for all your questions and before you even worry about it... you are NOT annoying! (we all think it at some point) We are here for one another, so don't hesitate to ask :)

Happy New Year to you all!!! :D...Anybody hear anything from POS? Any status change? They have had hubby's pp since Dec. 2...Im really trying NOT to send them another email...The last email I received from them (on dec. 16) stated that my hubby's file "will be finalized within 10 business days". So I thought by now I would hear back from them or did they just tell me that to shut me up ::)...Did they tell anybody else the same thing?

Good afternoon! Married in Montego Bay Dec 3 and I am working on my husbands paperwork. Hope I can find some advice here! I spoke to a lawyer and am not sure if I want to proceed there or do the documents myself. Anyone from London Ontario area with any ideas of local assistance?

The lawyer seemed to think the "Brides copy" of the marriage license was sufficient ( the one we received at the wedding from the minister) This has me hesitant.

Lawyer also printed me off documents to fill in and get my husband to sign ( love the courier for that), including get the criminal; check done immediately and his medical ( and his sons)

Any great resources there other than the immigration site? Anyone use a lawyer or do there own and have words of advice , advantages etc??

Thanks
Carol
Hi There

I don't see where anyone has answered your question about the "bride's copy" of the marriage license. No, you cannot use that - you have to wait until you get the actual marriage registration from the Registrar General.

As most have indicated, using a lawyer is totally your choice. But for what its worth.....here are my 2 cents! At the end of the day, you have to prove to the IO that gets your file that you relationship is genuine - as far as I am concerned, if it really is genuine, you are going to tell your story way better than any lawyer will! I spoke to an immigration consultant - not a lawyer, but same basic principle and he told me that doing an immigration application is like creating a piece of art.....then he tried to tell me that I am not really qualified to create that piece of art. That is when I laughed at him and told him that I highly doubt that he is more familiar with mine & my husband's relationship than we are and that I would create my own art!

I'm hoping that my hubby is here way before march as my due date is in the first week of march. I also sent them a doctor's letter to confirm that. As for tickets, after Monday ticket prices seem to stay within the 100-300 range right until February with Westjet, so hopefully prices don't get higher.

Hi @Ballasgirl, on the letter that cic send to my husband requesting his passport it listed steps to follow, and one of the step stated that his passport must be valid one month beyond the date of his medical , which will be the date by which you must arrive in Canada.

Hello, I am newly registered to this forum but been reading for a couple weeks. Very informative, warm and friendly placed. Kudos to you all and fingers crossed for us all and I pray for strength and endurance and positive thoughts and outcome for each and every once of us.
Some details on my little info:
PR Application sent off end of October 2014 Outland
(Using a lawyer so details not as up to date as I would like but so far he managed to get my extension so I know he is working lol)
I got married on my visitors visa in June, got extension just today for 6 months from September but I am back in Jamaica after 9 months extended vacation. so all is well as I got the extension after leaving Dec. My hubby and I cant wait to be through all of this and be together with each other. He is the citizen (sponsor). the last 9 months with him was so great.
Question: Any one had issues with travelling to and from the USA and to Canada from Jamaica? I plan to visit my sick aunt in the states as she specifically requested me. I figure I will have to go to and from the states for her on quite a few occasions as she is now senior and has no kids and needs me now and then.
Thanks for any info.

Hello everyone,
I would like to see if my husband would be able to obtain an American visa. I am little hesitant, as I do not want any interference with our application. Does anyone have any experience with applying for an American visa while sponsorship application for Canada is being processed?

Now I'm confused... I don't think my husband got a date that he has to be there? where would that be?
On the visa stamp in the passport theres a date of expiration to traveling to Canada. In my husband case it was Nov. 20 , 2015 because his medicals has been extended. So your husband has to travelling before the date mentionned on his passport and it could be a short delay or long delay depending on the date of his medicals has been done or extended. Did the passport has been returned yet?
