Does anyone know what the high commission's hours are for the Holidays? If passports are returned next week, is there any chance they will be returned the week after or does everything essentially close up until after New Year's? I still have my fingers crossed all passports will be returned before Dec 23rd but given that is unlikely, I want to know if Dec 29, 30, 31 are possibilities!

Congrats Sh and Sh!! I hope he is here for your baby's first Christmas as well - looks like you guys have been waiting a long time!

That should say if passports are NOT returned next week (as in before Christmas). Sorry. Haven't had coffee yet

Sweet! Loads of time to return those passports.

Mel is hubby all ready? Is he packing lots of stuff or leaving most there? I'm hoping mine can get everything he wants into two suitcases because I'm not sure Air Canada will let him take three and it seems like such a hassle to ship stuff. He is confident he can but I don't think he realizes how much stuff he has.

It is surreal talking now and making plans for when he is here. Last night I said "do you care if we have people into our house or go to friend's house for New Year's" and his response was "it is so funny to be talking about stuff like this!"

Yes hes almost ready now, he gonna move his household applicances and stuff like this to his parents this week-end (Kingston to Mandeville). Hes gonna bring here only clothes and small stuff. He says hes gonna take only one suitcase to check in . And Monday he will disconnect Lime service (internet + land phone) and will go sleep to Mandeville at his parents. After will leave to Mobay in the morning to go at the airport. I am writing this to you and still cant beleive its gonna happen! lol

Yes same for me, I am telling him our plans for holidays and ask him if its ok with him and hes like yes bae sure !! LOL Its just so weird and funny to have that type of conversations. I understand exactly what you feel !

Hi, can anyone tell me the process to get a drivers abstract from Jamaica, do they get it from the police or the tax office, and then do they just show that here with there license to get a Canadian drivers license?? Do they have to redo the tests here? Thanks

hahaha Mel - it is AWESOME to write! I can't believe he is only taking one suitcase - that is impressive. I am probably to blame for the second suitcase - I told him last night I wanted the nice handmade Jamaican pot he has. It makes excellent rice and never seems to stick!

MrsK I just got off the phone with my insurance broker and PinkyM had given me great info on getting stuff from tax office and insurance for when hubby lands here. It depends on your province but here he has 90 days to convert his licence to a NS one. For insurance, they want a letter of experiencing showing he was insured for 6 years and from the tax office they want a drivers abstract. My hubby went yesterday to tax office and they want a letter from an insurance company saying the driving abstract is needed. I am in the process of getting that drafted by my insurer here and emailing it off so he can go back and get the abstract. Hope that helps.

I had to fight with my insurance company too - I wrote them saying I wanted insurance for him immediately upon arrival on my car and they refused saying they wouldn't insure him until he had a NS license. I said frig that, you want to keep my business you figure out a way to make it work and a cost. So expect to be told no!

Depending on the province you leave in you will get the information at the driver liscence offices of your Province. I know in Québec my husband can drive with his current driving license and have 6 months to go exchange it for a Québec driving license and theres no exam or tests required during these 6 first months. If we dont go do this within 6 months, well he will have to redo everything. But of course, first thing we will do after Holidays!

AHHHHHH DHL shipment picked up!! This is crazy but I hope it means that passport is on the verge of being sent to Mobay!!! Status on DHL went from "shipment information received" to "shipment picked up - Kingston". Is this what yours did Mel?

Note: For your application, you may be required to submit fingerprints. If so, follow these instructions:
•Go to the police station closest to where you live.
•Bring a valid passport.
•Request that your fingerprints be taken on the prescribed Jamaican Police form.
•Advise the police officer that the fingerprints are required for immigration purposes.
•The police officer will affix the Police Station's stamp and seal to the form on which the fingerprints are taken and return it to you.

Can anyone tell me how long after police clearance is requested and received they request for passports? Even if it's an estimate time or an idea, it's pos dealing with my file n all fees are paid already

I would wait the passport be at delivery facility , does your husband is in Kingston? We had delivery on the same day because my husband lives in Kingston. Because if your husband is in Mobay or somewhere else it could takes few days again...

Which province you live ?? Maybe our husbands will travel together ! LOLOL
