CAR INSURANCE QUESTION

Does or did anyone's car insurance take into consideration their spouses driving experience from foreign when calculating their premiums.

Since this is what I do for a living - in Ontario, I guess I can weigh in on this one! If your hubby is over 25 and not principal operator of his own vehicle (meaning he a second driver on your car only), there will be no charge for him. If he has his own car - in Ontario, the max credit most insurer's will give is a 2* provided that they can prove at least 24 months of driving experience in another country - to prove this you must get a letter from the JA licensing place & a letter confirming they have had insurance from their insurer for at least 2 years. If they are under 25, they will need to be listed as an occasional operator even if there is only 1 vehicle and again, the max credit they can get is 2 years experience with most insurer's - in this case, they will need to get a letter from JA licensing & their insurer as well.

Of course, in Canada, we have provincial insurance, so I can only speak on the province that I am licensed in, but I would suspect that most provinces would be similar in their approach to new drivers to Canada.

Ok. I have a question. Not that we have had it requested yet, but my husbands meds expire on May 15 this year and his police check was done in August of last year and I believe that expires in 9 months.

The question is this. He was in Canada until August 25 last year, does this mean that I have to redo his police check for Canada again, even though he wasn't here for the past year. The police check was done 1 week before he left.

Hubby was daydreaming about what that phone call will be like when it finally comes through...we are not near the end yet but it really feels like him getting here is just NEVER going to happen...I can't hardly picture life with him here, and that it will someday actually come true!!
