Hi Guys and Gals this is your honorary Jamaican by marriage checking in.

I received a letter from Port of Spain Visa office asking for an original birth certificate dated closer to when my son was born in 1987. They had asked for a birth certificate before and we sent one but they said they dont need that one because it was dated May 2011 this seems so crazy to me since most jurisdictions when supplying birth certificate's would give give you a certified copy but dated the day it was signed by the registrar

I am so frustrated since this is the second time they have asked a certificate and it would be the third certificate that they have. The problem for us now is that we don't have one from that far back

Hey spiritrac. I am finding it very strange as well. If they have some doubt about your son's DOB, isn't there some kind of test they can ask to be done? In the meantime, was your son born at the hospital? If so, would there be some kind of hospital record for his birth? Perhaps you can request a copy of the hospital records for his birth. Just a suggestion, I don't know how extensive the record keeping system is in T&T.

NMH - You said they asked your hubby about your payslips. Did he also receive a PPR as well?

They told him that they are working on his file and they need me to get the lawyer to fax in my new paystubs because i have a new job

Son was born in Barbados and the certificate was issued by the Government of Barbados it states the date birth was recorded I checked both copies that I sent to them the one to Mississauga and the most recent and they are both the same copy the only difference is the date it was signed by the registrar to prove that its a genuine record of what is at the registry

Maybe they are questioning if I am his father

Spiritrac - if they were querying that, then they should know to ask for a DNA test. It is very odd to me that they keep requesting a birth certificate issued closer to his birth date, if you don't have one from that time, obviously you can't manufacture it. Have your lawyer explain to them clearly that the ones you submitted are the ones you have. Perhaps explain the circumstances why you don't have one from the time he was born, I'm sure they have to accept whatever reasonable explanation there is.

NMH - well, "working on his file" doesn't really tell us anything, and until you fulfill the request and there is a response from them to this, there isn't a specific update. Contact with the applicant is good though, it means the 2011 files are being looked at!
