Morning all..
I love ochi BAD bad.. my hubby is from there and we have a house up in great pond that is ever in construction lol, his family is from harrisontown and we have a house up in warrick mount - great pond area. I will be there for most of July cant wait. Before hubby when I would visit JA I would always stay in Ochi, its my favourite part of JA that i have been too so far. My hubby went to Ochi high and is the youngest of 8 children, so you dunn know you guys must know my hubby or one of his brothers or sisters or neices or nephews lol. I love the whole area. I love the clock for people watching, I love the market for its fresh food, I love Ochi beach for its shallow warm water, I love pinapple plaza, I love John Crows bar, I love oceans 11 for kareoke and daquiries, lobster dave`s for the lobster, and of course I love all the places that are on James ave where they have little bars and pool halls. I love Evitas for fancy dining and fine wine when I am dying for a glass of pinot grigio. and of course you gotta love Ville amongst all the other little clubs... ville sell off in Ochi!
I have stayed at the following places ( i will name the ones worth mentioning and that are not too far out of ochi, because a lot of them are) and I will rank them from price:
Silver Seas - it is very old, but the rooms are massive, the view is to die for, there isnt a beach but a pool and a jump off section to the water, its not all inclusive but you can stay there for 50 dollars a night and its more for the `backpacking`type of traveller or those who are jamaican and come back to visit and stay for a cheap price and just want a roof over their head at night. It is located just off of James Ave. Very Very close to the clock.
Fishermans Point - I used to stay here all the time, its a condo environemnt with kitchen and bedroom and on site resturant coconuts with free access to ochi beach. It has a pool and is located right across the street from Ville and Oceans 11. I love this location and this place is probbaly 80 dollars a night for a 1 bedroom with kitchen.
Rooms - this is located across from the shops on the main strip in ochi, 2 sec walk to everything. This is a `hotel` and you can get all inclusive or just breakfast or just the room. It is directly on the beach. Probably get this place from 100-120 a night with no food and obviously if you book it all inclusive you can get a deal.
Sandcastles - you can go all inclusive or not, Best location right across from John Crows bar, rooms are big and can include a kitchen, access to the ochi beach, big pool and is really geard towards the pool type of person. Probably 120 a night with on ave with no all inclusive
Sunset Jamaica Grande- if you are going all inclusive and want the real deal hotel resort kinda vibe, this is the only `resort`that i concider to technically be in Ochi even though the rest of the claim to be in ochi. This is located right next to rooms. great location, great beach, great food, great price. It is more of an older `resort`and is not a 5 star like some of the othes but for the price and the location you cannot go bad at all. Here they have the full on animation crew and big buffet and all that fun stuff. 200 dollars a night - give or take and depending on the season. You can get 1 week including flight from Toronto allinclusive for about 1300 a week.
RIU - outside of ochi about 15 min drive (wouldnt call it ochi but its advertised as ochi), but is a lovely hotel and has a beautiful beach. If you are going here you are going to do all inclusive. But it is amazing there and they have the BEST food, sunset jamaica grande doesnt compare to the food at RIU at all. This place has lobster night and crab night and alllll sorts of things. You could get all inclusive from toronto including flight for about 1500 a week.
So, there you go... those are my top picks that are as close as you can get to staying in Ochi (minus RIU)! Let me know if you need any other suggestions.
