Hello all, Its great to hear all the good news so far this month. Does anyone know of persons that have had their sponsorship applications sooner than 1 year?
Is there anyway to expedite the application process?
in the past many have been processed faster than a year. but for the last year or so it has taken around a year. there is not much you can do to expedite it. pay the fees upfront and comply with requests as soon as you get them. other than that it is out of your hands.

Hey guys I know this was previously answered but I cannot find the page where it was answered. What information is needed to convert a Jamaican licence to a Canadian G class licence.

Hey Kenny9! This is the answer I gave Chukky44.... its pretty easy to get the your Canadian license. You must first go to the Jamaican Consulate (303 Eglinton Ave E, Toronto, ON M4P 1L3) with your license and passport in hand. Here they will photocopy both documents and you pay a fee of $30 I believe. After you have done this they will take 7 to 10 working days to prepare a letter. The letter will confirm that your license is authentic and state your driving record (whether it was suspended in the past or not and so on). Once you get that letter from the consulate, carry it to your nearest DriveTest center with Passport and original Jamaican License and you'll get an eye test done, picture taken and do your written test and once you pass you'll get your temporary g1 license (all this is done on the same day) until they mail the actual G1 LICENSE to you.

Here's a link to some G1 practice tests - http://www.g1.ca/g1-practice-test/

1. If you have had your Jamaican license for 4 years or more you can actually book your G2 exit test (Highway test) on the same day you did the written test. They may give you a date within 3 weeks to a month. So no moving on to g2 or one year wait for you.

2. If your license is younger than that then the one year wait will apply and you'll have to move up the ranks until you get your full G License

I don't know but my hubby got his full license here in Canada without that letter in a week in 2013. We don't live in TO either.

Ok thanks I'll have hubby look into it because I've read you could but the prices seem to go up and down with every story I'd rather just get the letter to be on the same side cause some people tend to be difficult depending on location.

I emailed the tax office about this same thing months ago LOL...This was the response..

Good day,

Thanks for your email.

With regards to your query, in order to obtain a letter (Driver’s
Abstract Report or a Driving Record) as proof that you have a valid
driver's licence, you will be required to follow the procedures below,
since you are overseas:

1. Photocopy your valid Jamaican Driver's Licence (both sides)

2. Prepare a Letter addressed to the Island Traffic Authority (ITA)
stating the formal address of the Institution for which the request
should be prepared. The Letter should be addressed as follows:

Island Traffic Authority
145 Maxfield Avenue
Kingston 10
Kingston, Jamaica W.I.

3. Prepare two (2) Authorization Letters given to an Agent (person
acting on your behalf) in Jamaica:

a) One letter is to authorize the Agent to obtain a print out of
your Driver's Licence from Tax Administration Jamaica (i.e. the Tax
Office)
b) The other letter is to authorize the Agent to transact
business at the Island Traffic Authority (ITA)

In addition, you will be required to mail the above mentioned
documents (numbers 1 to 3) to your Agent, who will proceed with the
following steps:

4. Present the first Authorization Letter (point 3 a) above) and the
photocopy of your Driver’s Licence (point 1 above), in order to obtain
a print out of your Licence information, which is given the same day
at any Tax Office island wide.

5. Pay the Driving Record fee of Three Thousand Dollars ($3,000.00),
also at any Tax Office.

6. The Agent will be required to submit the letter addressed to Island
Traffic Authority, the second Authorization Letter (point 3 (b)
above), your Driver’s Licence print out and the receipt, to the Island
Traffic Authority (ITA).

For an idea on the processing time once the documents are submitted to
the ITA, you may contact their Office at 1-876-926-8148. The Agent
will then collect the Driving Record prepared by the ITA and mail same
to the Institution overseas.

Please note that all documents being submitted from overseas are
required to be notarized.

If you have any further request or queries please feel free to e-mail
us or call our Customer Care Centre at 1-888-Taxhelp (829-4357) and
1-888-Go-Ja-Tax (46-52-829) from the U.S.A. Our current opening hours
are 8:30-5:00pm (Monday- Thursdays) and 8:30am-4:00pm (Fridays).

Best Regards,
Denise Washington-Powell
