Good day,
Thanks for your email.
With regards to your query, in order to obtain a letter (Driver’s
Abstract Report or a Driving Record) as proof that you have a valid
driver's licence, you will be required to follow the procedures below,
since you are overseas:
1. Photocopy your valid Jamaican Driver's Licence (both sides)
2. Prepare a Letter addressed to the Island Traffic Authority (ITA)
stating the formal address of the Institution for which the request
should be prepared. The Letter should be addressed as follows:
Island Traffic Authority
145 Maxfield Avenue
Kingston 10
Kingston, Jamaica W.I.
3. Prepare two (2) Authorization Letters given to an Agent (person
acting on your behalf) in Jamaica:
a) One letter is to authorize the Agent to obtain a print out of
your Driver's Licence from Tax Administration Jamaica (i.e. the Tax
Office)
b) The other letter is to authorize the Agent to transact
business at the Island Traffic Authority (ITA)
In addition, you will be required to mail the above mentioned
documents (numbers 1 to 3) to your Agent, who will proceed with the
following steps:
4. Present the first Authorization Letter (point 3 a) above) and the
photocopy of your Driver’s Licence (point 1 above), in order to obtain
a print out of your Licence information, which is given the same day
at any Tax Office island wide.
5. Pay the Driving Record fee of Three Thousand Dollars ($3,000.00),
also at any Tax Office.
6. The Agent will be required to submit the letter addressed to Island
Traffic Authority, the second Authorization Letter (point 3 (b)
above), your Driver’s Licence print out and the receipt, to the Island
Traffic Authority (ITA).
For an idea on the processing time once the documents are submitted to
the ITA, you may contact their Office at 1-876-926-8148. The Agent
will then collect the Driving Record prepared by the ITA and mail same
to the Institution overseas.
Please note that all documents being submitted from overseas are
required to be notarized.
