Thank you. I emailed Kingston VO at 9:05 this morning concerning my Police Certificate which was done on Dec. 04, 2013. They responded at 9:58 to say that it is valid for one (1) year.
Yes depending on when you got your PC they are valid for one year from the time of issue. New ones are now only good for 9 months. They will not extend PC's and you are best to renew it once it expires and send it into the High Commission.

Also - I think that might be a record for Kingston replying back to an email. Usually they don't answer or they take weeks to get back to you

Hello C&T! Thank you for dropping by to say hello and provide some assistance! Good to hear that once POS sends out the AOR that that normally means that they are moving on the file. Hope that remains true for those of us that had our files sent to POS from KGN. Unfortunately, as you may remember, KGN was never that organized and I am pretty sure not many got an AOR from KGN and then went into process.

How has hubby adjusted to life in Canada?
Hi Twoheartsonelove :D and you are most welcome. I was offline for awhile but have recently come back to check in on folks and see that many JA folks have seen positive movement (YAY!) but Kingston has always been (as you say so kindly) "disorganized" so I see there are still some in the queue waiting that should be seeing progress soon. I recall from last year that hardly anyone in Kingston received AORs even though the CIC service standard states that they should be sent within 90 days of the file being received at the overseas offices.

It was a bit the same in POS; however, there are many more staff at the POS office and on our thread most of us would send CSE's if we did not get AORs and then POS would generally reply so we considered those "unofficial" AORs. With the fact that some Kingston files have been sent to POS I believe that is a good sign for everyone waiting, for several reasons. I used to work for the Federal gov't - not in immigration but there are many commonalities as to how they work across the board. First of all when they make a move like this it usually means they have finally decided to "clean house" so to speak. Kingston's performance has consistently ranked in the bottom 3-5 of all of the VOs abroad. The change in immigration ministers last year means he wants to make his mark and since he took over this is about the time we would see actions happening based on his initial evaluation of how things were working - or not working in this case.

Also the busiest time in gov't is always the last 2 quarters of their fiscal year Oct. - Dec. and Jan. - March as this is when they all start hustling to make their numbers and hit their targets for the year. I have a feeling that Kingston is getting a long overdue overhaul and it will be very positive for those who have been waiting a long time. If you look at the spreadsheets from most threads that keep them, you can see this trend. So stay encouraged everyone.

Now onto hubby's adjustment. It is an adjustment for everyone involved, the wives, the husbands, both families and like most marriages and relationships it has ups and downs. Some days are diamonds and some days are stones ;D. I have a lot of this info. in my posting history for anyone curious enough to go back and read through my previous "musings". In our case I do not think hubby or I were as prepared as maybe we could have been/should have been for the shift from long distance love for 6.5 years to living together :p. He had never been out of the Caribbean and I do believe this adds another level of adjustment for both parties. If your spouse has previously been to North America or travelled outside of the Caribbean, I think that prepares them more for the cultural adaptation. One funny story I can relay is how shocked my husband always is that dogs are beloved pets here. He himself is a dog lover and had many in Trinidad but NEVER would they come in the house, be spoiled with treats, get overweight, wear doggie clothes....lol.....and when I told him about pet insurance he almost fell over!! So one day my neighbor was out walking her little female shih tzu dog (wearing a pink coat and hair bow - the dog not the neighbor) and I introduced him to the neighbor lady and the dog. He looked at the dog and he looked at me and sighed wistfully......"if I ever get another life I want to come back as a Canadian dog"!!!

I would suggest both spouses practice a lot of patience, prayer, understanding and forgiveness in the first year and try not to take things personally......or get into a "country-off". Why our country is better than theirs or vice versa!! Does that tell you anything? Lol......to finally answer your question after all of this, overall he is doing great, working, driving all over, he cannot get over how big Canada is or our short growing season. He has also started buying his own winter clothes in preparation for his second winter. He now believes he is an expert on snow, ice and all other cold things he lived through for the first time last year.

How are you and your beloved making out with the challenges of this ordeal? Have you heard directly from POS yet? Blessings my dear.

@C&T - Thank you for the cute story and the humour behind your hubby being here. LMFAO about the dog and him wanting to be one in his next life. Too cute.
@Canjam - Thank you for checking in as well.

Love to hear the post landing stories especially months later to see how they have been adjusting. But not only them but the spouses here in Canada bc it cannot be easy for us at times. How do you deal with the "my country is better than yours" showdowns?? Let's face it both have their good and bad qualities.

CDNandTrini! it's so good to hear from you! and to get your immigration scoop too. I'm one of the POS girls now, so it's nice to hear from someone who's been through their office! some of us vets witnessed this time last year when there was a boom of people getting through -- here's hoping that that will happen again for the rest of us 2013's...and soon!

I loved your follow up...I love that he's all " Winter? I got this..." that's so funny!

Thank you so much for taking the time out to check in and give us some insightful info cause trust me a lot of us on here need to know more about how immigration n there twisted minds operate

Good adjustment story and advice, I can honestly say I love canada so hubby n I won't argue for sure about who's country is the best lol, we all know Jamaica is a place to live when you a millionaire not when you feeding just hand to mouth now that is depressing, don't get me wrong a lot of people in canada do live and to mouth but there are a lot more things that's put in place there than here but anyways that's my opinion again thanks for all those info n I keep Praying for us all

My file also got transferred to port of spain n since last year November when I applied last week was when I receive my AOR from port of spain so am guessing they working on my file n that's a good thing?

:D Thanks CanJam, I agree, it would be great to hear more post landing stuff from all of the other folks who want to share. "NEV, CHICKIE, DG, CARM, KADI.... And the rest ;)" come out, come out, wherever you are.

We all get used to being so supportive during the process, when we get approved and landed, that is when the new adventures begin!!

My hubby and I landed together last year, I went to Trinidad to "escort him to Canada" as he likes to tell people and we arrived the night of the first big snowstorm last December. We live near Toronto/Pearson airport so when we arrived home it was late and dark and about a foot of snow on the ground. We did not have boots or jackets and the cab driver would not pull into our driveway because he thought he would get stuck in the snow. Not only that, the driver said he had a bad back and would not unload our luggage. Anyway my guy is a big strong manly man type so he jumps out of the car to get the luggage and he almost fell because he thought he would be able to walk on top of the snow, he did not realize he would sink into it.......it was hilarious!!

I also remember one of the other ladies on the JA thread telling that her husband could not understand how the sun could be shining and there could be snow and cold at the same time.

Glad to hear your hubby is adjusting well. Is this his first time in Canada? What does he think of it? What does he feel is his/was/will be his biggest challenge. For my husband it has been adjusting to the workplace culture here.

There is an interesting overall culture shock theory for people that move to other countries and it is about 5 phases that people go through as they settle. I found it helpful to read some of that stuff (you can just Google it) as it helped me to understand a bit better again, how to process some things myself and from my husband's perspective.

Blessings.

You are most welcome THOL :) the "my country showdowns" (liking that term) are usually the tip of the iceberg. You are right there are pros and cons to all countries and I find my hubby mostly does that when he is missing home or is trying to assert himself in a situation when he is feeling overwhelmed simply by being so much on "my turf". I actually remember doing that to him in Trinidad when I would go there and feel out of sorts with the heat or too much of his world. I try to see beyond the surface of what he is saying to understand the 2/3 of the iceberg that is below the water. The first week we met I was very honest that I would not move away from Canada on any kind of permanent basis and he was willing to accept that. So I try to be extra sympathetic to the fact that he is the one that made the sacrifice to leave his home, family and friends. I am not always successful in this endeavor though :( so sometimes we "Google" it out.....lol.......but humour is also a great tool to use in any kind of marital showdown, not just the "my country" ones!! Blessings.

Lol......yes dis ting cost too much money!!! One of the things I love most about Caribbean people is the way that they express themselves, with all of those phrases and sayings....my husband can always make me laugh with his. Interesting though that both you and your hubby still have the country showdown even though you were both born in JA. I am just laughing imagining if a whole group of us were together in one place with all of the Canadian spouses on one side and all of the Caribbean spouses on the other side, what a convo that would be :p! Blessings.
