Here is a letter that I wrote to the Prime Minister, 2 MPS, City Councillor, Consul General and MP Olivia Chow........... Lets see if I can get a response!!!!! :( :'( ::)

Dear Prime Minister Harper, Members of Parliament and City Officials:

My name is Joanne O'Brien, resident of Mississauga, and I am currently in the process of sponsoring my husband Glen George Thomas, date of birth xxxxx xxxxx to Canada from Jamaica. I was approved as a suitable sponsor February 25, 2013. Immigration File #xxxxx. We have been married since February xx, 2012.

I have written to the High Commission of Canada on the following dates:

May xx, 2013
July xx, 2013
August xx, 2013
September xx, 2013

On May 14, 2013 I received the following email:

Thank you for your e-mail. It has been received by the Visa Section at the
High Commission of Canada in Kingston. Your e-mail will be answered as
soon as possible.

My questions have still not been answered and it is five (5) months later. This is an unreasonable amount of time to wait for a response.

We applied for Visitors Visa in October 2012, but we were denied, because the host income
(which was myself) could not be confirmed, although I provided my Notice of Assessment from the Canadian Revenue Agency indicating I am a ten(10) year XXXXXXXX Employee, earning in excess of $XX0.000.00 Canadian Dollars per year. My husband had no intention of becoming a Canadian at that time. We have been in the sponsorship process for 9 months, without any updates from the correspondence I have sent. I am wondering should we re-apply for a Visitors Visa again, or will it be denied because I don't earn enough money ? Is there a guideline for income, and how much one should earn for their spouse to be able to come for a visit? I would assume that having
$xx0,000.00 in the bank, being gainfully employed, would constitute "enough income". To be quite bold, I question the Immigration Officer's ability to correctly decipher and understand my Notice of Assessment.

I have flown to Jamaica 11 times ( with family and friends) in the last 24 months to visit my husband. As you can imagine, this is an additional strain on my family, work, health and finances. I must work an extra 280 hours per year to accumulate extra vacation time to visit Glen. We are currently renting an apartment in Lime Hall, Jamaica.

We have been forced into a position of sponsoring him (since the Visitor's Visa was denied), or I would have to choose the alternative, which is quit my job, in which I earn more than $XX0,000.00 per year, leave my children, and discontinue my role as the Founder of http://www.directabundance.com, in which I organize Educational and Community Development projects in developing countries. I travel frequently to supervise projects in struggling communities, including Jamaica and have travelled to the Caribbean 21 times in the last 4 years. My husband is a 49 year old, skilled steel fitter, first marriage, without any dependents or criminal history.

Can you tell me approximately how long the sponsorship will be? It seems unfair, bordering as a violation of Human Rights to keep marriage partners apart for such long periods of time, denying them the right to be with each other, unable to use a temporary Visitors Visa. Glen and I that work together, using his skills as a Steel Fitter and mine as a Social Worker to build schools and sustainable income projects in Jamaica to improve the quality of life for struggling Jamaicans.
In addition, I am being scheduled for surgery at the Toronto XXXXXXX Hospital in early
2014(I had my consultation on October x, 2013) and I would be grateful that my husband will be here to help care for me, as I will be unable to care for myself for 4 - 6 weeks.

I would appreciate if your office would return this email, as I am writing to Kingston Immigration on a Monthly basis without any response. In addition, I have travelled to Jamaica to attend the embassy on 3 occasions in the last year, but have not been able to speak with an Officer. I will be back in Jamaica in November 19 - 26/2013, and would be grateful for the opportunity to speak with an Immigration Officer.

I can be reached x xxxx xx xxxx or email at obrien_joanne @ hotmail.com or joanne @ directabundance.com

I look forward to a response.

Sincerely,

Joanne
wow on the letter.....great job that you are being proactive.....when i seen the name of the foundation, I was like wow, i have her on my facebook group and been on your website and have seen all the wonderful things you do for the citizens of Jamaica. You are so caring and giving and I hope they truly read this and help you out and give back something to you for all you have done in your work abroad so that your hubby can be here to help look after when you get out of surgery. Please keep us posted as to anything you might hear back from them. Thanks

Wow just seen my ticker.............sadly 20 months today.......please God let us get a call this week to send my hubby and kids home to me, i speak it out loud to be heard in your name father. I am at my wits end and don't know what to do anymore.....Kingston don't ever answer my emails and my MP only reads what is in my notes, which I already know. Why do we have to be so much in the dark? We pay alot of money for this service and we should know where we are in the process and should not have to go through such hell just to be with our spouses. It is beyond ridiculous now!

Chickie, I am sending you big hugs and sympathy and am so truly sorry that you have hit this miserable, awful timeline. I join you in your pleading and praying to God to make your immigration journey end this week with a PPR. We claim a victory for you and your husband and children in Jesus name. AMEN.

Is everyone ready for this week coming? It's going to be a week full of PPR's. Kingston I ask you to bring home my hubby nd I for x-mas so we can celebrate it with family. I really don't want to be apart for 2 x-mas.

Clear out these 2012 apps so you can start working on 2013.

Thanks Chickie!

I sure hope this week we will have some answers! I hope that everyone gets some piece of good news. I have had to deal with every level of Government in Jamaica with my organization, the NLA, NHT, Court System, Police System, Medical and Educational System. There is corruption at every level. I hate to be held hostage by a corrupt system. I hope one day that Jamaica will be afforded the efficiency that we are blessed to have here in Canada. I was ready to move to Jamaica and give up my canadian Citizenship, until I saw all the $%^ery that was taking place. I said no way!! Anyways, good luck this week to everyone!

just remember this is still the Canadian government that we are dealing with in the process and as you can see from my timeline there is no efficiency with it :( sad but true considering this is our government and our tax money!

I get that it is the Canadian Government, but I believe that the problem is not getting the sponsorship completed on this end, but once the file is transferred to Kingston it lies stagnant on the desk for months. In Mississauga, the file is taken care of within 27 days. It seems once it is transferred to JA that the wait begins. Is that right Chickie?

yes that is correct.....but those down there are still supposed to work for the canadian government? No one can answer what the heck goes on in kingston when our files get down there, sometimes I think it is just disorganization on their part, time management etc.....who knows? lol

What are the chances of someone getting a ppr on their 1 year bring forward date. Is that common?

Hi CanJam, it is basically the same thing for us, minus one year :p
We dated for two years, engaged for one and married for a year and for months now.

I thought that within 8 months we would be together and found this waiting would be sooo long LOL!
If I knew, we would tie the knot way sooner...

you know honestly i don't think Kingston even goes by the bring forward date except that when it does come there must be some sort of notification to them that this file is one year old and due to be looked at. As you can see from the spreadsheet, some people have gotten thru way before their one year due date and others haven't. There is no rhyme nor reason how Kingston does things. Here is a prime example:

Chickie72-applied Feb 2012-hubby lived in Canada, two children on the application also-we knew we would be here for a long time as different factors make ours longer
Nevaeha-Applied March 2012-hubby has never left JA, no children. No reason why this hasn't been completed yet.
Anada-Applied June 2012-hubby has never left JA, no children. Application completed in 6 months.
Keke-Applied August 2012-hubby has never left JA, no children. Application completed in 7 months
Also the strike is a factor in what is taking so long right now also but as you can see there are so many inconsistencies coming out of Kingston that we just don't know so I am sorry I can't really answer that except to say that i dont think the BFD means anything much unless it is a BFD on documents they requested. I think it is just basically what they put on everyones application that shows one year from time applied.

I was here this same time last year and not much of anything happened in the summer of 2012 until November 2012 then the PPR's started rolling out so I truly believe that thing will start happening again anytime soon so just keep the faith and hopefully you will be getting a call soon!
