Hey brothers...need some help here :))

So i have my Indian license since 2011 which I have been using since then...

Now my question is, if I wish to be able to drive a car right away when I reach canada, what am I supposed to do?

I am about to get an INTERNATIONAL driving license tomorrow , will it be useful in this regard?
If yes, can I use that license indefinitely?

Should I really get an international license or can just use my own Indian license there?

How long will the Indian/international license be valid?

I hears there are 3 stages for canadian license, is it really so hard to get?
All i want is, that I can drive right away, and can drive a long time without any issues...any help in this regard please?

Thank you brothers :)

well it depends on the province some provinces u can drive for 2 months some 3 months and some 6 months so its between 2-6 months. Yes get an internationals driving license.
read about ontario for example
http://www.drivetest.ca/EN/licencing/Pages/Out-of-Country-Drivers.aspx

I dont know how u will get a car right away and insurance unless ur planning to rent. If ur planning on driving a taxi it a different story

Bring your international drivers permit. it will let you drive a car for a year. but will you get insurance at the rates you can really afford with that license is a totally different story.

Driving in Canada is very different as compared to in India, so honest advise is to not go into driving immediately but wait a few months before you go on road.
If you get charged with an indictable offense associated with driving in Canada it will make you inadmissible like hitting a pedestrian and getting charged with criminal negligence.

And if you wanna quote experience of driving in India please understand in order to drive in Canada you have to forget everything about Indian driving and learn new rules and have to follow them 100% of the time which is a major source of frustration for some people. (Dont read anything else than straight honest criticism in my comment)

and do go for professional driving lessons. They will not only make your insurance cheaper but will also keep you safe.

You must have both with you. You will probably only be able to stay for a limited period before you will need to switch to a Canadian provincial licence. You should check with your province as soon as you take up temporary residency.

Have you received ur Int'l drivers license. it must be accompanied with ur original license.
Do you have Indian Drivers License? Which province are you headed to? check the rules of that province about what you need to carry and what not.

I am yet to make one…but if I go tomorrow I will get it same day so its not a problem

PS: is it s problem if intl license and passport have same address, but my indiain license has a different address???

question is why? if you can answer it then fine otherwise not fine.
Make sure license is the chip one and also since you are going to the office ask for a certified letter of your licensing record. You may need it.

Hi
its because it was made in 2011 and now address is different on passport which was made in 2015...

yes regarding the certified letter,I am in maharashtra, and driving schools here told me they used to issue such leters years ago, but they dont issue it anymore….what can I do regarding this??

not driving schools but the government office that issues ur license.

Even tho you have driving license from India you need to switch it to Canadian license. But if you have Indian license, you need not to give written test of driving ( I know that of sask, not sure about other province)
