Hello everyone,

I landed in Canada on 29 March 2017 and stayed there for a 10-day period. Then, we came back to Turkey since my husband and I had jobs here and my mother was taking care of my son. Now, we are planning to move to Canada in 2019 summer.

I know that I have to live in Canada for 2 years out of 5 years to be able to keep my permanent residency status. I was wondering when the 5-year period starts. Did it start when I landed in Canada (which was on 29 March 2017), or did it start when my family sponsorship application was accepted, which was on 25 August 2016?

Thank you for the help in advance!

Starts on your initial landing date so March 29 2017 so returning summer 2019 is not an issue. You will need either your PR cards or PRTDs to fly back to Canada.

After the initial 5 years the 5 years becomes a rolling 5 years where you need 2 years in the 5 years preceding each entry into the country.
