Keeping my US driver’s license but getting a Canada license?

I am a US citizen, but I have a house in ontario I spend considerable time at. I would like an Ontario driver’s license. I’ve heard I can exchange my US license for a Canada license at a DriveTest in Ontario.

1. Do I have to give up my US license? Will my US license be “cancelled”? Is there a way to have them both active/valid?

2. Is there a way I can have my Canada license address be different than my US license address?

Edit: If I *do* have to surrender my US driver's license, can I not just go back to the US and claim my license was lost, to get a new one? If I do this, will my Canada license be "cancelled"?

What is the benefit of getting an Ontario driver license?

You can’t have two driver’s licenses at once, or at least according to Ontario.

An EXCHANGE means you will need to surrender your US license to get an Ontario license.

Ontario recognizes the International Driving Permit.

1. When I go to the DriveTest location to exchange it, would they let me keep a physical copy of my US license?
2. If I surrender my US license at the Drive Test, is the US dmv informed?
3. If I go back to the US and say I “lost” my old license, will the Canadian drivers license be rendered “inactive”?

1) No, they keep the license and return it to the issuing state.
2) Yes, they are informed. They also check the validity of the license.
3) That's fraud. And they'll probably want a police report. They'll also have your old license that you "lost". You figure it out.

There is also the MTO database that tracks peoples licence status and the NDR in the US that tracks activities of a persons drivers license (infraction, suspensions, changes in drivers license). They will know and it's pretty much illegal in every state, province and territory.
