My boyfriend (Canadian) send the application for outland family sponsor common-law and according to the tracking nr of Post Canada it is already at CIC, Mississauga, Ontario.
Now I was wondering when I can come to Canada (I want to wait the process out in Canada, but at the moment I am in my country -Holland)
Will CIC send us a letter that the application is processed or something? Or do we have to wait the 1.5 month till they approve him as a sponsor?
Thank you so much in advance for your comments/help! :)

My understanding is that as long as you have a visitor visa for Canada or don't need one and I would think that Hollan wouldn't need one, but best to check, you can go over as a visitor whenever you like, although you will probably get a 6 month visitor visa when you enter.

There has been a lot of advice on this forum in different threads about IO questions that they might ask, and they need to be convinced that you will return to your own country should your PR application not be approved. But generally you can come and go from Canada whenever you like on a visitor visa.

Hmm ok (thank you :)), but I need to be outside of Canada when applying (like I was) right? Since it is the 'outland' application.
So dont I then need a confirmation letter or something from CIC telling us that they have received the application? -so that the application really is started, with me being out-land? ::)

Hi!

You could have still applied outland while visiting your husband in Canada.
CIC-Mississauga won't send you any letter to confirm they received your application, you need to wait ~1 month to get a letter from them regarding their decision (sponsorship approval).

Oh wow! So I could have just stayed there! (I visited him for 2 weeks just a couple days ago) :-o
Well ok then.. :p Now at least I can bring some more stuff with me.
So I can just go back to my boyfriend and stay over there (as visitor for 6 months and then ask to stay longer) and wait untill the visa gets approved? :) Yayy!

Um then.. since I have been looking all over the place, but cant find posts (might be blind me tough.. if then sorry) but could someone give me the link of where there are some tips on the questions they may ask at customs? -that mandyf was talking about- ::)

((Thank you both so much for the help!))

Aww, wish you had found this website before applying! So we could have told you and saved you the trip back :)

Just a recommendation - Did you put your address in Holland as your mailing address?
Once your file is transferred to your Visa Office (after sponsorship approval) they will be sending you letters. You will need someone to be checking your mail, to tell you when you receive letters from your Visa Office, and send them over to Canada. Yes, you can change your address, but it is always safe to have someone checking your mail for you, because sometimes they either take too long in changing them, or simply forget to, and I'm sure you don't want any delays in your process :)

If you are applying as common-law then you have to currently be living together (and for at least the past year). So if you are in Holland and he is in Canada then it might not qualify as common law.

At bonbon9: Yes I did fill in my address in Holland, since I thought that with applying for outland PR it was very important to actually be and live outside of Canada ('out of the land'), and that only once the application process is started I am free to travel in and out of Canada.
And yes, thank you, I will have some one there regularly checking my mail for me.
Question that arrises now tough: Could I change my address to a Canadian addres? -and then still be allowed to be in the process of outland family sponsor common law?

At silverbee: yes there is a little something to that... The dates we signes our application forms, it was less then a year ago that we had been living together for a year (Sept 2008- Sept 2009) in Canada. Tough.. here it comes – the mail got lost for a while, when I send it from Holland to Canada and therefore the date we send the application forms to CIC it was more then a year ago that my and my boyfriend “have been living together in a conjugal relationship for at least one year in a continuous 12-month period that was not interrupted”.
In April/May 2010 he visited me in Holland for 1.5 months tough and also I just came back from a visit of two weeks to him in AB Canada. Also he had lived with me in Holland for 6 months in 2007/2008 (with my parents..) And we have added a lot of the proof we have (pictures, letters, cards, emails, mail to the same addresses in Canada of that year we were living together, letters from people, list with signatures, etc)
So do you think it will not get approved?.. ::).

Hi BaukjeBecka,

Common-law applications are one of the hardest to get through and proof, and really I don't think anyone can say whether or not you will get through, as it depends on the proof you sent through, as well as your local VO.

From my understanding you can change your address to Canadian, but as you are doing an outland application and it is all being processed in your country's local visa office, if they need you to come in for an interview, it will be in Holland and you will have to travel there for it, and your passport will need to be sent to Holland to get the visa actually put into it. I have read about people doing this via family in their home countries, i.e. when the request comes you send the passport to them in your country and they send it on, and then it is returned to you the same way, but I'm also sure somewhere in these forums it had been spoken about them doing it directly. So I suppose the choice is yours.

I know this isn't really very helpful and doesn't give you any definitive answers, but all we can say is our best guess.

Goodluck.

Ok, thank you MandiF :)

Pfew Im a little bit nervous now.
Arg its so frustrating how something that is real is just so hard to all get put into an application package (the suiting one..) sent to CIC... I know they probably just do it to sort the real from the fake but its just hard to try and make your relationship 'fit' into one of the application packages... (if Im making any sence..) But I mean it is just hard, because you dont know how strict they are on each thing.
Like we have the part --have been living together in a conjugal relationship for at least one year in a continuous 12-month period that was not interrupted-- covered, but then that now was a little over a year ago, so it wasnt in the past year anymore when we sent the package off to CIC.. :-S

Yes ok I know this is not really a question.. I am just wondering if they will or will not look hard on that part.
I just hope that the tons of proof will make them ease up, because I think its hard to not-see that our relationship is real. ::) :)
