Just became a PR and need to travel urgently. Not sure how to expedite PR Card

On January 7th we crossed the boarder and I finally became a PR, the agent at the boarder told me everything I need to know and gave me a booklet that covers everything else, well most everything.

I know my PR card is automatically sent to my address, and the agent briefly mentioned getting it expedited. However, I can't seem to find any good information on how I'm supposed to have that done. The guides on CIC are directed for people who've submitted a separate application for the card, or are renewing a card. I have no idea how to get in contact with them, since my card is being processed automatically.

Should I just submit a web form using my PR application details and include my proof of travel and such there? I do have a real cause, I need to travel in the beginning of March, my grandfather has stage 5 renal failure and has been given a terminal diagnoses. March is the only time we could line up with family members to offset travel costs, I don't believe I'll have a chance to see him again until sometime next year, and he's only been given a couple more months to live.

Just double checking, is it possible for you to travel to the US by land instead of flying? Not sure where your final destination is, but could you just cross into the US and fly from there? You can cross the land border with just your COPR, you only need the PR card to fly into Canada.

I was told there was a way when I confirmed my permanent residancy at the boarder, I was also given an information page that said I could expedite the Card as well, my only problem is the description as to how to do it was just to look it up on the CIC website.

If I really can't do it, I read that US Citizens don't need their Card to get back into Canada, only their passport.

There is no expedited processing of an initial PR card. Doesn't matter what your reason is.

However, since you have a US passport which is eTA-exempt, you can simply fly back to Canada without the PR card. Just don't tell the airline you're a PR.

When back in Canada, simply show CBSA your COPR and explain you're still waiting for initial PR card to arrive. They will easily be able to confirm your PR status and should not give you any problem at all.

However, since you have a US passport which is eTA-exempt, you can simply fly back to Canada without the PR card. Just don't tell the airline you're a PR.
