...i don't think this is a thing, is it?
pretty sure you can't sponsor someone unless you're either a Citizen, registered under the Indian act, or a PR.

Some people use the term "sponsor" incorrectly. Like that member who asked a question on SOWP and he/she said he's not PR or citizen.

I can only see tracker updates because my lawyer is handling the process, so I cannot check the GCkey status.

No, they're literally not asking that. They said they can only find answers for that situation, not the PR sponsorship situation. They confirmed that in their reply to you.

your comment was a bit misleading, also because it's literally everywhere in this forum and i was confused why you couldn't get a definite answer?
anyway, it's valid for 2 years unless your passport is expired before that
