Hi All, Planning to move to Canada in May,
Have a few questions

Can I drive a car with my Indian driving license ? My plan to land and hire a car to drive to the place I intend to be in quarantine may be keep the car for the first 15 days? I am moving to Ontario and landing in Toronto with my wife and 2 kids. I am thinking of taking a car and driving to the place I will book.

Second can I hire a Airbnb place for the initial period say a month. Will the authorities send my pr card to the air bnb / a hotel address or do they need a permanent address with rent agreement?

Also since we will have to be in self quarantine I am planning to stay out of GTA area so that I can get a cheap and good accommodation.

Thoughts on the above pls.

@cansha and other pls help
1.Yes, you should be able to rent a car.

2. When they ask for address at port of entry they don't ask for an address proof so you can give any address. But if you tell them it is AirBnB some agents may not take that address. In any case PR card processing may take more than a month so giving a temp address may not be ideal. You can give address of some friend / relative instead.

3. Prices outside of GTA may not be very low as well. Also, if you are in quarantine you would need delivery of grocery etc. Think about if delivery etc. is available if you are living outside GTA.

you might need to stay for 2 or 3 days at a government mandated quarantine facility (hotel) by paying upto 2000 CAD per person. keep that in mind.

Thanks a lot.

was also wondering about flights.... lots of confusion on this issue also about which one to book and which ones will let you fly

Any body has any idea on this? I plan to travel before 26th june. That is when my visa expires

The best deals on flights are the ones that fly via either paris or amsterdam ....will I be allowed to board them cause of the surge in cases in Europe?

Germany currently has an air bubble with India so was thinking of Lufthansa? Has any body flown them?

Or is it safe to just take Air India? cause they have a direct flight?

Or may be I should wait to book and see how things shape up with Covid?

A lot can change between now and June. Very difficulty to predict anything. In the given situation I wouldn't plan anything more than 2-3 weeks out.

Unfortunately, there are a few who are still waiting. There was only one PPR in recent months that was reported.

Hi, All got this mail from CIC today . what does it mean. I can not travel or its it just a general mail?

Dear client,

Thank you for your interest in coming to Canada as an Economic Class permanent resident. We are looking forward to having you here, but you will have to wait a little longer.

At this time, to protect Canadians from COVID-19, travel restrictions are in place for individuals travelling to Canada. Even people with a confirmation of permanent residence (CoPR) and a permanent resident visa (PRV) counterfoil (if applicable), CANNOT TRAVEL TO CANADA at this time to become permanent residents unless they are exempt from the travel restrictions.
Do not worry if your documents are near expiry. We will contact you with further instructions if your documents expire before the travel restrictions are lifted. We will then work with you at that time to re-issue or extend the validity of your documents when it is safer to travel.
Travel Restrictions Compliance and Enforcement
We want you to eventually come to Canada safely and legally. Please note if you don’t follow the instructions provided to and try to travel to Canada right now, you could face a signficant ticket or fine. Entering Canada is an offence under the Quarantine Act. For more information see Consequences for failure to comply with the Emergency order.

Please learn about how COVID-19 is affecting immigration services and how it affects travel, quarantine and borders for the latest information on travel restrictions before making any travel plans and again before departing for Canada to avoid being denied boarding or entry in Canada.

Hi All,

Couple of quick question. I had gotten an email saying i cant travel to Canada despite having a valid COPR.
My COPR expires june 25th and was issued in Dec 2020

1. Are there any exceptions for COPR holders or one must just wait for further instructions. Will it help writing a mail to them via webform to seek an exception.

2. I have family in the US and on the cic website they say that travel via US may be allowed. Is it worth taking a US tourist/ transit visa and traveling to Toronto via usa. I will be flying in from India.

Or there is no point trying to get into Canada now and just sit and wait for CIC to send an email.

Coming during the summers was just working out really well with kids schooling and my work and a whole lot of other things. I had done all the planning and was about to fly when this mail came. Covid has put everything into jeopardy.

Like always thanks in advance you guys have been great help like always

1. There are exceptions but you will have to check website as conditions change. I think they were giving exceptions if you are coming to rejoin with your family or join a job.

2. It is feasible to enter from US. I have seen posts of people coming from US for soft landing or settling.

Whether you want to come or not is entirely your decision. Given the scenario it is very difficult to advise anything.

But consider why you want to come now? Is it just for soft landing .. if yes, then it is way too much work to first get US visa and then enter from US and consider the expenses as well.

Is it for settling? If that is the objective it makes sense to take the efforts but also consider that job hunting may be really difficult. Even apartment hunting may be difficult. If you are planning to come to Ontario then as per reports Ontario may enter mandatory stay at home orders for 28 days very soon.

Covid has rattled everyone's plan. Covid situation in Ontario is quite grim and vaccination rates are too slow. Things can evolve quickly though.
