Hey folks, so my tracker says that I'm scheduled for oath ceremony on November 15th. The thing is I had a travel planned even before the citizenship application and didn't anticipate the application to get wrapped up so fast. Since I haven't received an email yet, is it ok to pro-actively send an email to niagara center to discuss rescheduling the oath ceremony?

Just wait for the email because you need to reply to the email that IRCC sends you in order to reschedule the oath some other time.

From personal family member experience, if you could appear you should because most of the times IRCC marks you as "no show" that means you are then put to the end of the list and might have to wait a long time before reschedule happens (family member had to wait 6+ months for reschedule to happen)

I would advise dont do this. You are lucky you have gotten it wrapped quickly. Chnnge your travel plans, swallow the loss. Get your oath, apply for passport and then travel. This is a one time thing. And congratulations!

How do they verify your location during the ceremony? I'm in no way advising anyone do this, and no one should attempt it because like the consequences are pretty bad lol, but how do they actually verify your location during the ceremony?

I don’t think they verify your location. The problem is that you have to cut your PR card at the ceremony. Getting back into Canada is then the problem. You don’t have a PR card and you also don’t have passport (despite technically being a Canadian citizen).

In the oath email PDF it explicitly says this

Inside Canada: By participating in this video oath ceremony, you confirm that you, and any family
members associated to your application, will be taking the Oath of citizenship in Canada. If you are
not currently in Canada, contact us as soon as possible in order for us to reschedule your ceremony.
Indicate “Outside Canada – Oath of citizenship” in the subject line of the email. Within the text of your
email, include your name, application number and planned date of return to Canada.

Apart from SoHunny's valid response, I think that one more reason to not lie is that if someone says that they are in Canada, and they aren't, it can be construed as misrepresentation and can cause problems down the road. However, will they pursue the misrepresentation case is a whole different matter. They won't in most cases, but they will if they have an incentive or motivation to get you out of Canada, for e.g. if you have political aspirations.

Postponing the oath date is best, if your travel is must and important. Except slowest processing office Scarborough, the rest office locations would schedule the oath again in few weeks to couple of months time.

The first question the Oath officer asks is "Are you in Canada". I don't think it would be good decision to lie.

As I said I'm not planning on such thing and don't advise doing on anything remotely similar. The stakes are too high, it's not worth it. I was just curious how they do it.

test completed sep 28 and updated on sep 30th (right corner) .
no updates after that.

Oh!! I see many people getting the next updates who have test updates after mine. lol I expected it would be done by now considering the applications going faster.
