It will be good for everyone to take the settlement funds requirement seriously. The Canadian government, through the FSW program, fully acknowledges the fact that it takes some time for new immigrants to land gainful employment in Canada. That is precisely why they require applicants to set aside funds to get them through their first few months after the big move. The amounts set are not arbitrary. These represent average costs of living across Canada, for families of varying sizes. Again, there are no surprises here.

On another note, I would like to say I am all for dignity of labor. There is nothing wrong with washing dishes (or cleaning houses for that matter) for a living. If that is what one wants to do, he should do so with gusto and pride. If someone, by force of circumstance, has to take on a temporary job washing dishes to get him through an awkward start, he should do so with pride while not losing sight of the larger goal he has set out for himself. Everyone needs to work to get to where they want to be. Nothing is going to be served on a silver platter.

I myself has an MBA. But I haven't wrapped my MBA and my profession around my self-esteem. I am more than just a degree and a profession. In any case, not all MBAs are created equal. To those wishing to take an MBA outside of Canada, make sure you select a program that is accredited by AACSB, AMBA, and Equis. To most of the developed world, these are the accreditation that matter.
to buttress any perception that canada is a land where honey flows and that you dig gold every corner you go is a total misleading info. getting landed is the very first step as it open doors to endless opportunities but i must tell you that you'll need to walk your way back to the top if you're determined.it is achieveable!
i've been in canada for two years as international student which i regretted as i should have come in as landed, that's the reason prompting me applying for FSW. any landed must seek every avenue to network, dont limit yourself to only your ethnicity (i dont want to name some countries so i wont be criticized) as you'll tend to follow their pattern of life. dont count on your foreign credentials as you'll need canadian experience e.g, school, work etc, it all adds up while climbing that ladder.

regarding work, which i believe is the impetus of every immigrant, landing that dream job is a fairy tale but dont get me wrong, there's been success rate but zero your mind off such. the quickest job to find starts from minimum pay jobs which are short - long term through placements and it tends to keep inflow and augmet what you already had. before your landing and depending on your family size, make sure you save enough money that'll keep you for about 6 months

canada is more of equal playing field as long as you have the necessary tools, but my advice to you guys is to buckle up if you gotta get up there fast. for me, i had a good, i mean, the best in my home country of whatever you can imagine and its like starting all over since i got here and im grateful for where i am now, despite all odds, despite at the verge of landing my dream job only to be told that they needed a citizen or landed immigrats, i still make a healthy living and hoping to get that PR some day, then the sky wont just be the limit.....
good luck to you all.

Future Canadians,

I just hope that what you indicated in your proof of funds is yours and yours alone, not borrowed from relatives or friends. You will certainly need that money to adjust on a different lifestyle.

...
Hi good post! :)

I have come under fire when I have criticised people who borrow money and pretend it is theirs for immigration purposes. "Stop trying to destroy our dreams!" they will tell me.

Well, it is not just about fairness to other applicants, and it is not just about breaking the law and defrauding CIC. Although they are important points.

It is also about fairness to the applicants themselves. On average it takes a new immigrant 3 to 6 months to secure a job once landing in Canada. Some people are lucky and get a job quickly. Others take longer.

The numbers specified by CIC for settlement funds are the minimum they believe you can live on for 6 months, which is how long it may take to get a job. If you borrow funds, and within the 6 months you have not been able to secure a job, then not only are you then low on funds, you ALSO have a large debt which you have no current way of repaying.

Life could be a struggle when you start out in Canada even if you have the minimum required settlement funds of your own (and CIC strongly advise you to take more if you can). Do not make the struggle even harder by getting into debt to meet the funding requirements.

So I would say please do not take the requirement for settlement funds lightly. If you borrow money for this, not only are you cheating other applicants and CIC, but you are also cheating yourselves.

Wayne.

Thank you for your advice. But I read somewhere in this forum if anybody has money more than CIC announcement he/she will be fined or prisoned? Do you agree whit these statements? Thanks in advance
