Tim, I know of a case from MI2 where the applicant ( can't recollect his name even after rattling my brains for hours ) needed his PP to travel abroad for a very urgent meeting, He contacted NDVO , the concerned officer was considerate enough, his PP was stamped immediately & handed out to him in person .
Not contacting them would do more harm. You will have to take a call. Also, Canada now looks interested in applicants who have secure job offer. It's almost over 2 months they received your PP. They are sensible enough to understand the employer is not going to wait for eternity for your PR.
