Can we earn that much on Student Visa that we can get the fees of next semester by doing the odd jobs?
I am deciding to go for University of Regina.
How much an average student earns in Regina?

It's extremely unlikely that you will be able to earn enough money to cover the fees for the next semester.

if u can earn n cover for ur accomodation and food ,i think that will be the best u can do to urself ,coz odd jobs are usually a little under 10/hr ,so ....plan and act for whatever reason u r here.

1. For first 6 months you won't be allowed to work off campus and the job on campus are highly competitive.
2. If you get a TAship or RAship then things will go smooth for you. It pays as much as 35-40 CAD/hr
3. If you have to rely on off campus (odd) jobs then the probabilty is that you will only be able to manage half of your tuition fee.
4. It is advised to be mentally prepared for paying 75% of your tuition fee.
5. If you manage to earn only your expenditure then it would be a big thing. It cost monthly around 400-500 CAD if you are living an average life.

really, no 6 months job. :o

1. Quote from CIC Website: "You can apply for a job right away, but you cannot legally work off campus in Canada until you receive an off-campus work permit. If you begin to work off campus before you receive an off-campus work permit, you could become ineligible to participate in the Off-Campus Work Permit Program. It is illegal for you to work in Canada without a valid work permit."

2. Quote from CIC Website: "No, you cannot apply for a study permit and an off-campus work permit at the same time. To qualify for the program, you must already hold a valid study permit, and you must have been a full-time student at a participating institution for at least six of the last 12 months before you apply."

Actually - it's longer than six months that you cannot work off campus. You qualify for an off campus work permit once you have completed six months of full time studies in Canada. It then takes about a month and a half for the off campus work permit to be processed. So assume it will be about seven and a half months before you can work off campus after starting your studies.

This also assumes that you are attending a school where you will qualify for an off campus work permit. Not all schools qualify (e.g. LSBF = no off campus work permit).

Now this is called a complete answer :)

Its very difficult to find odd jobs without legal status in Canada, in toronto you can find some but again its very difficult, usually desi's can hire you, but they abuse you to no end, sometimes they don't even pay. Most desi's ask you to work for fee at least 2 to 3 weeks for training, its a very common practice here.

Also dont even consider oing to Regina, the reason is, its a very small city and there are absolutely no jobs here without SIN card.

@inam, scylla

i can see people write topics in this forum about "survival jobs", which are like started 1st or 2nd week upon arriving in canada, why they are doing jobs without a permit?

Don't get involve in illegal activities. Work off campus when you have your OCWP. Survival jobs topics may be for work permit applicants not for study permit.

@Hell911 Thats not for International Students.. The topic u mentioned must be in PR discussions.. The new "landed immigrants" always depends on survival jobs for the first few months.. If u r sure that u have seen in the section of "International Students" then Its a misguide and totally illegal..!! The only possible and rare solution is to find an On campus job which is I think next to impossible..!!

yea, maybe i saw was for work-permit-people. ;D

after we graduate from PG/Masters program, do you think we will also be same in their situation? just curious :o
