Canadian jobs are beginning to feel the credit crunch. They advertise jobs that do not exist.
A friend of mine moved to Calgary recently through a job offer, but was recently laid off.Made frantic efforts to respond to several local adverts with no success.
Are those jobs real or not meant for immigrants. Does anyone had similar experience?

The US economical crisis has started to spill over to Canada. Since Canada has the US as it's largest business partner, it was just a matter of time. I have heard about some layoffs but I think it is still easy to find jobs for good people here but might get worse before getting better.

When my turn is about to come to immigrate, Canada's job market started to get hit by the US recession.

What a luck!

well you never know! some people get lucky when times are bad, a classic example : when there's a hailstorm the car smash repair guys get superbusy.

Employers these days often get discounts for long term adds in newspapers. I'm sure that many companies are still hiring but there are more applicants.

It will be more difficult to find jobs these days, but if you look hard, you'll find something.

Yes, I agree - but I am not from the repair guys, I usually get my car smashed with hails.

don't worry i'm in the same boat! when i finished my degree then bloody osama decided to bring the twin towers down and brought the IT jobs down with it...*(&#$#^ and now this recession beast chewing on our feet.

It would not be an overstatement if i say we're living in more challenging times than our grandparents, atleast on the job front. I envy the lifetime of baby boomers arrrrgh!

I am hopeful, however the economy trend is showing pretty grimy picture at least a year or so and that will be the time frame I will join the job hunting in Canada. I hope this to get better in 6 months or a year.

I heard over radio that the situation is going to improve mid 2010. Next year is not showing any promise. The manufacturing, finiancial sectors, IT etc would be showing downward trend. Stable areas include mining, farm labour.

The most scary part is the rate at which canadians are pumping out babies! I hope who're already in canada would affirm this. If the system crashes it would be because of overstressing the system. I haven't looked at data of how many people are on social security. But last time, on my day off during weekday roads were so damn busy that it seemed like noone goes to work in the town anymore!! walmart was dampacked too!

Canada also along with US going into recession... see below

People are in walmart because they don't have money or they want to save, they don't want to buy designer stuff anymore, the malls are empty in this Holiday season.

Some of the people making fortune on this, like walmart and costco etc. while others suffer.

After taking several degrees, I guess I should seriously think about farming labor jobs for next couple of years.

I'm going anyway, there is always a way out on everything, I like challenges.

Peace!

Don't get me wrong, I am going too, I will not get a CEO position anyway, I am just looking to survive in any position in the beginning and later when market gets better I will see the opportunities.
