Not to disappoint you but, as far as my experience goes it's very difficult to the extent almost next to impossible (if not impossible) as i have been at it since almost last one year.

JobBank is of no use (both in terms of connecting you to an employer or giving you a job match in accordance to your profile/experience/NOC for that matter)

Nevertheless, keep trying...and don't loose hope...because that's all you have apart from your education, qualification and experience.

Indianaspirant, i see your point :)
What is important is that you will be looking for a job and will have pr at that time so you will not have to deal with issues like before.

I think that just by replying to adds and saying you have pr will make a big difference.

Do you know if employment agencies are usefull at all?

Yes, they are. At least for IT proffesionals. I know multiple ppl who got a job through agencies with $90-100 kilo yearly on a contract.

Most employers would prefer to hire local talents mostly due to the hassle of hiring foreign workers, except if you have special skills and unique experience. Once you landed here and become a PR, you have the same opportunity as the local talents. Then, it is a matter of applying the right jobs, getting the invitation for interviews, and securing the position.

Different provinces and different jobs have different competitions. Job applicants will be called for interview if their resumes' outshine the others. This means that in addition to having more than adequate skills and experiences, the resume has to be flawless: proper format, no mistypo, fluent written english, and esthetically nice. Based on their life or working experience, different hiring managers might have different subconscius bias with age, gender, race, religion, etc. So neutral-toned resume might prove more beneficial to the applicant. There might be common bias that non-western foreign workers might have weaker spoken english due to lack of exposure compared to local talents. Emphasizing the proficiency or exposure during the work experience in the resume might help.

Once the applicants being called for interview, they need to prepare for it by researching for the company background and relating them to their resume and experiences. Then deliver them by performing well during the interview. Remember that it might not be all about skills and qualifications. Hiring managers will try to feel their personality and chemistry & compatibility with the team. However well the applicants performed, it is not done deal until the contract has been signed. That means after the interview, send a proper follow up email and also prepare the references about your work application situation.

I hope these would help. They might seem basic, but they are critical in securing a job. Good luck!

There are a couple online tools that can help you find jobs.

The job bank website is actually useful for finding current openings and giving you an idea of job availability and salary range. If you don't have a specific province/ city in mind you should definitely check it out to make sure you can find the best wage. You will be surprised at how much of a pay gap there is between provinces. For example some lifeguards in Ontario make minimum wage $10.45/hr while others in British Columbia will make $25/ hr with the same experience and qualifications. Both are jobs in big cites where the cost of living is about the same.

Other websites like indeed.ca and workopolis.com also helps you to find current jobs. Play around with job titles. Again use the job bank website to get an idea of all the possible job title in you field.
LinkedIn is good for networking with locals. Do some research of the type of companies that are in your field and follow them on LinkedIn.

Once you land there are local employment offices that can help you with finding a job, resumes and interviews. The Canadian work force is very competitive and having a well written and current resume is key. Often times HR personnel (with no knowledge of all the technical aspects of your job) are the ones sifting through the resumes and if it doesn't match the job description your resume goes straight in the garbage....no matter how much experience you have. So take the time and use these FREE services to make sure you have the best resume possible.

If you don't have a job lined up when you land be prepared for it to take a while to find your ideal job...that's just the reality of it. Sometime organizations hire from within before posting externally. So lets say that you work as an administrative assistant but you are professionally trained as an engineer. When an engineering job becomes available you will be able to apply for that job before the rest of the public and that can give you a leg up on finding your ideal job. Some provincial governments and major cites ( City of Toronto and Ontario Provincial Gov) operate this way.

Hopefully it helps. :)

No, they are not!!! At least for bookkeepers in Edmonton.

Try monster.ca, indeed, workpolis, etc. Create profile on LinkedIn, connect with other people from you industry. Open specific companies websites and check "career", "we are hiring" options.

It will likely take you a couple months for you to find a job in your field, that seems to be the experience of most people. Good news is there are plenty of temp jobs that you'll be able to get in the mean time
